Evaluation of a veterinary-based syndromic surveillance system implemented for swine.
TL;DR: The study showed that the veterinary-based surveillance system was acceptable to practitioners and produced useful data and better communication with practitioners, more user-friendly recording systems that can be adapted to each clinic's management system, and the use of financial incentives may help to improve compliance and timeliness.

Systemic and enteric colonization of pigs by a hilA signature-tagged mutant of Salmonella choleraesuis
TL;DR: HilA in S. choleraesuis infections of pigs has a role in enteric but not systemic infections similar to that of S. typhimurium in the murine model of human typhoid fever, and the role of hilA may be conserved across Salmonella serovars and host species.

Leptospira in slaughtered fattening pigs in southern Vietnam: presence of the bacteria in the kidneys and association with morphological findings
Sofia Boqvist,J.M. Montgomery,M. Hurst,Ho Thi Viet Thu,E. Olsson Engvall,A. Gunnarsson,Ulf Magnusson +6 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that Leptospira infection is common among fattening pigs in the study area and that these animals may be considered as an occupational human health hazard and it is suggested that the presence of white spots is an unreliable indicator of the existence of renal leptospires.
