This Review describes the current knowledge of how geminiviruses interact with their plant hosts and the functional consequences of these interactions.
Abstract
The family Geminiviridae is one of the largest and most important families of plant viruses. The small, single-stranded DNA genomes of geminiviruses encode 5-7 proteins that redirect host machineries and processes to establish a productive infection. These interactions reprogramme plant cell cycle and transcriptional controls, inhibit cell death pathways, interfere with cell signalling and protein turnover, and suppress defence pathways. This Review describes our current knowledge of how geminiviruses interact with their plant hosts and the functional consequences of these interactions.

The transcriptional regulator JAZ8 interacts with the C2 protein from geminiviruses and limits the geminiviral infection in Arabidopsis

TL;DR: In this article , the interaction of C2 proteins from two tomato-infecting geminivirus from the genus Begomovirus, tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) and tomato yellow curl Sardinia virus (SV) with the transcriptional repressor JAZ8 from Arabidopsis thaliana and its closest orthologue in tomato, SlJAZ9 was described.

A robust SNP-haplotype assay for Bct gene region conferring resistance to beet curly top virus in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors used an SNP dataset for the Snap Bean Association Panel (SnAP) agro-inoculated with CTV-Logan (CA/Logan) strain to locate the Bct gene region to a 1.7-Mb interval on chromosome Pv07 using genome-wide association study (GWAS) analysis.

Diversity and phylogeography of begomoviruses and DNA satellites associated with the leaf curl and mosaic disease complex of eggplant

TL;DR: In this article , a survey of 72 eggplant fields located in six different Indian states revealed a prevalence of disease ranging from 5.2 to 40.2%, and the symptoms recorded were mosaic, mottling, petiole bending, yellowing, and upward curling, vein thickening, and enation of the leaves, and stunting of plants.

Molecular detection and characterization of begomoviruses from Burkina Faso and Nicaragua

TL;DR: This study confirmed the reported infections by these viruses in tomato plants as well as common beans plants and amplified the full-length genomes of CalGMV and BGYMV since only partial DNA sequences were determined in the previous study on bean-infecting begomoviruses from Nicaragua.

Top 10 plant viruses in molecular plant pathology

TL;DR: A short review on each virus of the Top 10 list and its importance is presented, with the intent of initiating discussion and debate amongst the plant virology community, as well as laying down a benchmark, as it will be interesting to see in future years how perceptions change and which viruses enter and leave the Top10.

Emerging Virus Diseases Transmitted by Whiteflies

TL;DR: Factors driving the emergence and establishment of whitefly-transmitted diseases include genetic changes in the virus through mutation and recombination, changes inThe vector populations coupled with polyphagy of the main vector, Bemisia tabaci, and long distance traffic of plant material or vector insects due to trade of vegetables and ornamental plants.

Exploiting chinks in the plant's armor: evolution and emergence of geminiviruses

TL;DR: The geminiviruses represent a family of DNA viruses that has circumvented these impediments to emerge as one of the most successful viral pathogens, causing severe economic losses to agricultural production worldwide.

Global analysis of Arabidopsis gene expression uncovers a complex array of changes impacting pathogen response and cell cycle during geminivirus infection

TL;DR: Geminiviruses modulate plant cell cycle status by differentially impacting the CYCD/retinoblastoma-related protein/E2F regulatory network and facilitating progression into the endocycle.
