TLDR
This Review describes the current knowledge of how geminiviruses interact with their plant hosts and the functional consequences of these interactions.Abstract:
The family Geminiviridae is one of the largest and most important families of plant viruses. The small, single-stranded DNA genomes of geminiviruses encode 5-7 proteins that redirect host machineries and processes to establish a productive infection. These interactions reprogramme plant cell cycle and transcriptional controls, inhibit cell death pathways, interfere with cell signalling and protein turnover, and suppress defence pathways. This Review describes our current knowledge of how geminiviruses interact with their plant hosts and the functional consequences of these interactions.read more

Diversity of viral RNA silencing suppressors and their involvement in virus-specific symptoms.
TL;DR: The most recent findings related to the well-studied RNA silencing suppressors of four viral taxonomic groups: geminiviruses, potyviruses, tombusviruses and cucumoviruses are discussed in this article .

Mastrevirus Rep and RepA Proteins Suppress de novo Transcriptional Gene Silencing
Kikyo Watanabe,Masashi Ugaki +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a hairpin-shaped self-complementary RNA corresponding to the enhancer region of the 35S promoter (hpE35S) was used to induce de novo TGS against the transgenic GFP gene encoding green fluorescent protein.

Functional Analysis of V2 Protein of Beet Curly Top Iran Virus
Ana Luna,Tsachi Keren-Paz +1 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors demonstrate that BCTIV V2 is a local silencing suppressor in Nicotiana benthamiana and can delay the systemic silencing spreading, although it cannot block the cell-to-cell movement of the silencing signal to adjacent cells.

Analysis of the effects of the mutation of selected genes of pedilanthus leaf curl virus on infectivity, symptoms and the maintenance of tobacco leaf curl betasatellite
TL;DR: Investigation of the effects of the mutation of the coat protein, V2, C2 and C4 genes of PeLCV on infectivity, symptoms and maintenance of TbLCB in Nicotiana benthamiana indicates that begomovirus--betasatellite interaction is highly nuanced.

Top 10 plant viruses in molecular plant pathology
Karen-Beth G. Scholthof,Scott Adkins,Henryk Czosnek,Peter Palukaitis,Emmanuel Jacquot,Thomas Hohn,Barbara Hohn,Keith Saunders,Thierry Candresse,Paul Ahlquist,Cynthia Hemenway,Gary D. Foster +11 more
TL;DR: A short review on each virus of the Top 10 list and its importance is presented, with the intent of initiating discussion and debate amongst the plant virology community, as well as laying down a benchmark, as it will be interesting to see in future years how perceptions change and which viruses enter and leave the Top10.

Emerging Virus Diseases Transmitted by Whiteflies
TL;DR: Factors driving the emergence and establishment of whitefly-transmitted diseases include genetic changes in the virus through mutation and recombination, changes inThe vector populations coupled with polyphagy of the main vector, Bemisia tabaci, and long distance traffic of plant material or vector insects due to trade of vegetables and ornamental plants.

Exploiting chinks in the plant's armor: evolution and emergence of geminiviruses
TL;DR: The geminiviruses represent a family of DNA viruses that has circumvented these impediments to emerge as one of the most successful viral pathogens, causing severe economic losses to agricultural production worldwide.
