Improving embryo selection using a computer-automated time-lapse image analysis test plus day 3 morphology: results from a prospective multicenter trial

TLDR
Experienced embryologists using Eeva in combination with D3 morphology significantly improved their ability to identify embryos that would reach the usable blastocyst stage, and adjunctive use of morphology plus Eeva also reduced interindividual variability in embryo selection.

Good practice recommendations for the use of time-lapse technology †

TL;DR: The present ESHRE document provides 11 recommendations on how to introduce TLT in the IVF laboratory, which are mostly based on clinical and technical expertise, but leaves any decision on whether or not to use TLT to the individual centres.

Limitations of a time-lapse blastocyst prediction model: a large multicentre outcome analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors retrospectively tested a published blastocyst prediction model on a large combined set of transferred embryos with known clinical outcome and found a relative increase of 30% for implantation in the model-selected group of embryos.
Journal ArticleDOI

External validation of a time-lapse prediction model.

TL;DR: This study was unsuccessful in replicating the sensitivity of the previously published model for predicting implantation rate of embryos ranked according to morphokinetic categories.
Journal ArticleDOI

Time-lapse in the IVF-lab: how should we assess potential benefit?

TL;DR: The lack of evidence of benefit of this novel intervention is explored, the methodological flaws of current studies are analyzed, ideal study designs that assess the various features of time-lapse imaging are offered, and forthcoming studies are discussed.

No benefit of culturing embryos in a closed system compared with a conventional incubator in terms of number of good quality embryos: results from an RCT

TL;DR: The results are consistent with other, smaller randomized trials showing no difference in embryo quality when comparing culture in a conventional incubator with that of a closed TLI incubator system.

Blastocyst score affects implantation and pregnancy outcome: towards a single blastocyst transfer

TL;DR: The ability to transfer one high-scoring blastocyst should lead to pregnancy rates greater than 60%, without the complication of twins, according to a retrospective review of blastocysts transfer in an IVF clinic.

The use of morphokinetics as a predictor of embryo implantation

TL;DR: A multivariable model is proposed based on the findings to classify embryos according to their probability of implantation and it is proposed that the image acquisition and time-lapse analysis system makes it possible to determine exact timing of embryo cleavages in a clinical setting.

Non-invasive imaging of human embryos before embryonic genome activation predicts development to the blastocyst stage

TL;DR: It is found that success in progression to the blastocyst stage can be predicted with >93% sensitivity and specificity by measuring three dynamic, noninvasive imaging parameters by day 2 after fertilization, before embryonic genome activation (EGA).

Preliminary observations on polar body extrusion and pronuclear formation in human oocytes using time-lapse video cinematography.

TL;DR: Time-lapse video cinematography is shown to be an excellent tool for studying fertilization and early embryo development, and it was found that good quality embryos arose from oocytes that had more uniform timing from injection to pronuclear abuttal and tended to have a longer cytoplasmic wave.

Epigenetics and assisted reproductive technology: a call for investigation.

TL;DR: The need for investigation of two major questions is highlighted: large-scale case-control studies of ART outcomes, including long-term assessment of the incidence of birth defects and cancer, and investigation of the relationship between epigenetic errors in both offspring and parents.
