Low-energy ion scattering at surfaces

TLDR
The field of low-energy ion scattering for surface interactions at metals, alloys, catalysts and semiconductors is reviewed in this article, where the basic principles, classical scattering theory, the effect of shadowing and blocking, and some of the computer simulation programs are briefly described.

MEIS investigations of surface structure

TL;DR: The early work of the FOM-AMOLF group in Amsterdam clearly demonstrated the potential of medium energy ion scattering (MEIS), typically using 100 keV H+ incident ions, to investigate the structure of surfaces, but most current applications of the method are focussed on near-surface compositional studies of non-crystalline films as mentioned in this paper.

Epitaxial growth of ultrathin Ag films on Al(111)

TL;DR: In this paper, the structure and growth mode of Ag evaporated on Al(111) at room temperature were investigated by ion scattering, and strong indications for island formation (three-dimensional growth mode) have been found.

Time-of-flight analyzer system to detect reflected particles from a solid surface following low-energy particle injectiona)

TL;DR: A time-of-flight analyzer is developed to measure energy distributions of reflected particles from solid surfaces bombarded by low-energy (1-2 keV) ions and compares these characteristics of neutral particle reflections with those of reflected ions.

Approaches to Study Grain Boundary Segregation

TL;DR: In this paper, the main experimental methods and theoretical procedures for detecting the grain boundary segregation are described, and the information about the required interatomic potentials for these calculations is also given.

Surface studies by scanning tunneling microscopy

TL;DR: In this paper, surface microscopy using vacuum tunneling has been demonstrated for the first time, and topographic pictures of surfaces on an atomic scale have been obtained for CaIrSn 4 and Au.

A Monte Carlo computer program for the transport of energetic ions in amorphous targets

TL;DR: In this article, a Monte Carlo computer program was developed for determining ion range and damage distributions as well as angular and energy distributions of backscattered and transmitted ions in amorphous targets.

The theory of atomic collisions

TL;DR: The perturbation theory has been applied to many-body problems and applications, such as electron collisions with atoms, collisions between atomic systems, nuclear collisions, and certain aspects of two-body systems under relativistic collisions.
