Managing the risks of extreme events and disasters to advance climate change adaptation. Special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

TLDR
In this paper, a special report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Abstract
This Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The report focuses on the relationship between climate change and extreme weather and climate events, the impacts of such events, and the strategies to manage the associated risks. This Special Report, in particular, contributes to frame the challenge of dealing with extreme weather and climate events as an issue in decision making under uncertainty, analyzing response in the context of risk management. The report consists of nine chapters, covering risk management; observed and projected changes in extreme weather and climate events; exposure and vulnerability to as well as losses resulting from such events; adaptation options from the local to the international scale; the role of sustainable development in modulating risks; and insights from specific case studies. Heavy precipitation events over the Euro-Mediterranean region in a warmer climate: results from CMIP5 models

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated changes in the intensity of heavy precipitation events at the end of the twenty-first century over the Euro-Mediterranean region using a subset of numerical climate simulations taking part to the fifth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project.

A review of the biophysical impacts of climate change in three hotspot regions in Africa and Asia

TL;DR: In this paper, a systematic review was conducted of biological and physical climate change impacts in three hotspot regions in Africa and Asia, focusing on identifying the nature and extent of biophysical impacts in semi-arid zones, mega-deltas and glacial-fed river basins.

Evaluation of daily precipitation statistics and monsoon onset/retreat over western Sahel in multiple data sets

TL;DR: In this article, daily precipitation statistics are evaluated from the contributions to the AFRICA-CORDEX experiment from two ERA-Interim driven Canadian RCMs: CanRCM4, developed at the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis (CCCma) and CRCM5, developed by the University of Quebec at Montreal.

Intraspecific phenotypic variability of plant functional traits in contrasting mountain grasslands habitats

TL;DR: It is argued that protecting habitats with considerable medium- and small-scale environmental heterogeneity is important to maintain large intraspecific variability within local populations that finally can buffer against uncertainty of future climate and land use scenarios.
