Managing the risks of extreme events and disasters to advance climate change adaptation. Special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
TLDR
In this paper, a special report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).Abstract:
This Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The report focuses on the relationship between climate change and extreme weather and climate events, the impacts of such events, and the strategies to manage the associated risks. This Special Report, in particular, contributes to frame the challenge of dealing with extreme weather and climate events as an issue in decision making under uncertainty, analyzing response in the context of risk management. The report consists of nine chapters, covering risk management; observed and projected changes in extreme weather and climate events; exposure and vulnerability to as well as losses resulting from such events; adaptation options from the local to the international scale; the role of sustainable development in modulating risks; and insights from specific case studies. Responses of soil nitrogen and phosphorus cycling to drying and rewetting cycles: A meta-analysis
Decai Gao,Decai Gao,Edith Bai,Mai-He Li,Mai-He Li,Chunhong Zhao,Chunhong Zhao,Kailiang Yu,Frank Hagedorn +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a meta-analysis of the responses of soil N and P pools and fluxes to drying and rewetting and how these responses are modified by experimental conditions is presented.

Do maize models capture the impacts of heat and drought stresses on yield? Using algorithm ensembles to identify successful approaches
TL;DR: The review of algorithms in 16 crop models suggests that the impacts of heat and drought stress on plant yield can be best described by crop models that incorporate event-based descriptions of heatand drought stress, consider the effects of nighttime warming, and coordinate the interactions among multiple stresses.

Compound hot droughts over China: Identification, risk patterns and variations
TL;DR: In this article, a joint dependence model was presented to estimate the occurrence probability of compound hot droughts over four different periods across the country, and the authors showed that the negative connection between temperature and dryness encompasses most of China.

The potential global distribution and dynamics of wheat under multiple climate change scenarios.
TL;DR: Land suitability for wheat cultivation increased in Europe, Russia, the United States, Canada, China, and Pakistan, whereas a decreasing trend in suitability was found in Central and Eastern Africa, Australia, and South India.

Antarctic climate change: extreme events disrupt plastic phenotypic response in Adélie penguins.
TL;DR: This study suggests that lower summer SIC than currently observed would benefit the foraging performance of Adélie penguins in their southernmost breeding area and provides evidence that extreme climatic events can disrupt response plasticity in a wild seabird population.
