Managing the risks of extreme events and disasters to advance climate change adaptation. Special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
TLDR
In this paper, a special report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).Abstract:
This Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The report focuses on the relationship between climate change and extreme weather and climate events, the impacts of such events, and the strategies to manage the associated risks. This Special Report, in particular, contributes to frame the challenge of dealing with extreme weather and climate events as an issue in decision making under uncertainty, analyzing response in the context of risk management. The report consists of nine chapters, covering risk management; observed and projected changes in extreme weather and climate events; exposure and vulnerability to as well as losses resulting from such events; adaptation options from the local to the international scale; the role of sustainable development in modulating risks; and insights from specific case studies. Traditional agriculture: a climate-smart approach for sustainable food production
Rinku Singh,Gopal Singh +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors advocate traditional agriculture as a climate-smart approach for the sustainable food production and also deliberates the correlation between climate change and agriculture, and also argue that traditional agriculture is one of the largest sectors that sustain livelihood to maximum number of people and contribute to climate change.

Justice in urban climate change adaptation: Criteria and application to Delhi
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors have developed criteria to assess justice in adaptation so that the processes, priorities, and impacts address the needs of the most vulnerable urban populations, and mechanisms that have been proposed as responsible for producing urban injustice.

A framework for the development of the SERV model: A Spatially Explicit Resilience-Vulnerability model
TL;DR: In this paper, a framework for a spatially explicit resilience-vulnerability (SERV) model that measures vulnerability at the sub-county level is presented. But, the authors do not consider the combined impact of exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity on vulnerability.

Monetary valuation of the social cost of CO2 emissions : A critical survey
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a critical review of the reported SCC estimates by examining some neglected consequences of climate change, uncertain and extreme scenarios of climate changes, the discounting of future climate change effects, the treatment of individual risk aversion, and assumptions about social welfare.

From Yokohama to Sendai: Approaches to Participation in International Disaster Risk Reduction Frameworks
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors trace the treatment of participation of local and community actors through the three international frameworks for disaster risk reduction (DRR): the Yokohama Strategy and Plan of Action for a Safer World, the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (SFDRR).
