Managing the risks of extreme events and disasters to advance climate change adaptation. Special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
TLDR
In this paper, a special report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).Abstract:
This Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The report focuses on the relationship between climate change and extreme weather and climate events, the impacts of such events, and the strategies to manage the associated risks. This Special Report, in particular, contributes to frame the challenge of dealing with extreme weather and climate events as an issue in decision making under uncertainty, analyzing response in the context of risk management. The report consists of nine chapters, covering risk management; observed and projected changes in extreme weather and climate events; exposure and vulnerability to as well as losses resulting from such events; adaptation options from the local to the international scale; the role of sustainable development in modulating risks; and insights from specific case studies. TL;DR: It is found that C and water fluxes estimated with the parameter set are in good agreement with observations, and the model with the new parameters estimated that European grassland are a sink of C with 213?g?C?m-2?yr-1, which is close to the observed net ecosystem exchange flux of the studied sites.

Towards a Green Energy Economy? A macroeconomic-climate evaluation of Sweden’s CO2 emissions
TL;DR: In this paper, a production and consumption-based empirical macroeconomic-climate assessment of Sweden's CO2 emissions is presented, based on three complementary quantitative methods, namely energy-economy-environment indicators, econometric analyses, and a multi-regional input output (MRIO) sectoral model.

Plant Responses to Extreme Climatic Events: A Field Test of Resilience Capacity at the Southern Range Edge
Asier Herrero,Regino Zamora +1 more
TL;DR: Analysis of the resilience of a Mediterranean mountain ecosystem after an extreme drought in 2005 examines shoot-growth and needle-length resistance and resilience of dominant tree and shrub species in two contrasting altitudinal ranges, indicating great tolerance to extreme droughts for dominant species of pine-juniper woodlands.
