Managing the risks of extreme events and disasters to advance climate change adaptation. Special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

TLDR
In this paper, a special report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Abstract
This Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The report focuses on the relationship between climate change and extreme weather and climate events, the impacts of such events, and the strategies to manage the associated risks. This Special Report, in particular, contributes to frame the challenge of dealing with extreme weather and climate events as an issue in decision making under uncertainty, analyzing response in the context of risk management. The report consists of nine chapters, covering risk management; observed and projected changes in extreme weather and climate events; exposure and vulnerability to as well as losses resulting from such events; adaptation options from the local to the international scale; the role of sustainable development in modulating risks; and insights from specific case studies. Assessment of Social Vulnerability to Floods in the Floodplain of Northern Italy

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors applied the Social Vulnerability index (SoVI) to the floodplain of northern Italy, based on the use of 15 census variables and identified a positive spatial autocorrelation across the flood plain that translates...

A dynamic assessment tool for exploring and communicating vulnerability to floods and climate change

TL;DR: An innovative approach to support a participatory modelling process for the exploratory assessment of vulnerability within the broad context of climate change adaptation by providing a simplified dynamic vulnerability model developed within a conceptual model adopted by many international organisations.

Evaluating the variability and trends in extreme climate events in the Kashmir Valley using PRECIS RCM simulations

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed 27 climate extremity indices using PRECIS RCM simulations for a baseline (1961-1990) and future scenario (1990-2098) using RCLIMDEX model.

Identifying the impact of multi-hazards on crop yield—A case for heat stress and dry stress on winter wheat yield in northern China

TL;DR: In this paper, the spatio-temporal pattern of heat stress and dry stress and the impacts of these multi-hazards on winter wheat yield have been investigated using historical climate data, phenology data and yield records from 1980 to 2008.
