Managing the risks of extreme events and disasters to advance climate change adaptation. Special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
TLDR
In this paper, a special report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).Abstract:
This Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The report focuses on the relationship between climate change and extreme weather and climate events, the impacts of such events, and the strategies to manage the associated risks. This Special Report, in particular, contributes to frame the challenge of dealing with extreme weather and climate events as an issue in decision making under uncertainty, analyzing response in the context of risk management. The report consists of nine chapters, covering risk management; observed and projected changes in extreme weather and climate events; exposure and vulnerability to as well as losses resulting from such events; adaptation options from the local to the international scale; the role of sustainable development in modulating risks; and insights from specific case studies. How are we adapting to climate change? A global assessment
Alexandra Lesnikowski,Alexandra Lesnikowski,James D. Ford,Lea Berrang-Ford,Magda Barrera,Jody Heymann,Jody Heymann +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors apply a systematic approach to measuring adaptation actions being undertaken by 117 parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) with the goal of establishing a baseline of global trends in adaptation.

Detection and attribution of large spatiotemporal extreme events in Earth observation data
TL;DR: The analysis strategy is to directly search in the relevant observations for spatiotemporally connected components exceeding a certain percentile threshold, and the attribution framework reveals that extremes in fAPAR are primarily driven by phases of water scarcity.

Climate change threats to population health and well-being: the imperative of protective solutions that will last.
TL;DR: This article highlights links between climate change and non-communicable health problems, a major concern for global health beyond 2015, and identifies actions and strategies that are effective in reducing these increasingly likely threats to health and well-being.

Scenario dependence of future changes in climate extremes under 1.5 °C and 2 °C global warming.
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that the chemical compositions of emissions scenarios, not just the total radiative forcing and resultant warming level, must be considered when assessing the impacts of global 1.5/2 °C warming.

Projection of temperature and heat waves for Africa with an ensemble of CORDEX Regional Climate Models
TL;DR: In this article, the authors provided an analysis of projections of temperature and related extreme events for Africa based on a large ensemble of Regional Climate Models from the COORDinated Regional climate Downscaling EXperiment (CORDEX).
