Managing the risks of extreme events and disasters to advance climate change adaptation. Special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
TLDR
In this paper, a special report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).Abstract:
This Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The report focuses on the relationship between climate change and extreme weather and climate events, the impacts of such events, and the strategies to manage the associated risks. This Special Report, in particular, contributes to frame the challenge of dealing with extreme weather and climate events as an issue in decision making under uncertainty, analyzing response in the context of risk management. The report consists of nine chapters, covering risk management; observed and projected changes in extreme weather and climate events; exposure and vulnerability to as well as losses resulting from such events; adaptation options from the local to the international scale; the role of sustainable development in modulating risks; and insights from specific case studies. Modeling the dynamics of distribution, extent, and NPP of global terrestrial ecosystems in response to future climate change
Chengcheng Gang,Chengcheng Gang,Chengcheng Gang,Yanzhen Zhang,Zhaoqi Wang,Yizhao Chen,Yue Yang,Jianlong Li,Jimin Cheng,Jimin Cheng,Jiaguo Qi,Inakwu O. A. Odeh +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the spatiotemporal distribution and net primary productivity of global terrestrial biomes and their dynamics in this century were quantitatively simulated and compared by using the improved Comprehensive and Sequential Classification System and the segmentation model.

Integrating the mitigating effect of forests into quantitative rockfall risk analysis – Two case studies in Switzerland
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a general framework which allows for integrating forests into quantitative rockfall risk analysis, based on the idea that forests influence the propagation of blocks and that they reduce their energy.

The sweet side of global change-dynamic responses of non-structural carbohydrates to drought, elevated CO2 and nitrogen fertilization in tree species.

TL;DR: It is found that drought significantly decreased total NSC in roots, but not in foliage and above-ground woody tissues (bole, branch, stem and/or twig), and the response of NSC to three global change drivers was strongly affected by tree taxonomic type, leaf habit, tree age and treatment intensity.
