Managing the risks of extreme events and disasters to advance climate change adaptation. Special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

TLDR
In this paper, a special report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Abstract
This Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The report focuses on the relationship between climate change and extreme weather and climate events, the impacts of such events, and the strategies to manage the associated risks. This Special Report, in particular, contributes to frame the challenge of dealing with extreme weather and climate events as an issue in decision making under uncertainty, analyzing response in the context of risk management. The report consists of nine chapters, covering risk management; observed and projected changes in extreme weather and climate events; exposure and vulnerability to as well as losses resulting from such events; adaptation options from the local to the international scale; the role of sustainable development in modulating risks; and insights from specific case studies. GEPIC-V-R model: A GIS-based tool for regional crop drought risk assessment

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors constructed a crop drought risk assessment model, GEPIC-V-R, suitable for large regional scale, with functions to fit vulnerability curves and calculate risk.

Climate change extremes and photovoltaic power output

TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess global changes in the frequency of warm and cloudy conditions that lead to very low PV power outputs and find that conditions are likely to worsen by mid-century over the Arabian Peninsula while improving over southern Europe.

Assessing the impact of climate variability on maize using simulation modeling under semi-arid environment of Punjab, Pakistan.

TL;DR: A good calibrated CERES-Maize model can be used in decision-making for different management practices and assessment of climate variability in the region.

Aeolian dynamics of beach scraped ridge and dyke structures

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the near surface flow and transport potential of three artificial structure designs: a single ridge, a double ridge and a dyke, and the results suggest that the double ridge structure is the most resilient to aeolian erosion.
