Managing the risks of extreme events and disasters to advance climate change adaptation. Special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
TLDR
In this paper, a special report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).Abstract:
This Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) has been jointly coordinated by Working Groups I (WGI) and II (WGII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The report focuses on the relationship between climate change and extreme weather and climate events, the impacts of such events, and the strategies to manage the associated risks. This Special Report, in particular, contributes to frame the challenge of dealing with extreme weather and climate events as an issue in decision making under uncertainty, analyzing response in the context of risk management. The report consists of nine chapters, covering risk management; observed and projected changes in extreme weather and climate events; exposure and vulnerability to as well as losses resulting from such events; adaptation options from the local to the international scale; the role of sustainable development in modulating risks; and insights from specific case studies. The Impact of Food Prices on Poverty and Food Security
Derek Headey,Will Martin +1 more
TL;DR: This article reviewed the literature and analyzes why different authors often reach different conclusions regarding the welfare impacts of food price changes and showed that systematic measurement errors in household surveys may seriously affect estimates of the poor's dependence on food purchases at any given point in time.

Impacts of rainfall extremes on wheat yield in semi-arid cropping systems in eastern Australia
Puyu Feng,Puyu Feng,Bin Wang,De Li Liu,De Li Liu,Hongtao Xing,Hongtao Xing,Fei Ji,Ian Macadam,Hongyan Ruan,Qiang Yu,Qiang Yu,Qiang Yu +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, two statistical models, multiple linear regression and random forest, were used to identify rainfall extremes indices affecting wheat yield in three different regions of the New South Wales wheat belt.

Spatial variation in water loss predicts terrestrial salamander distribution and population dynamics
TL;DR: The results suggest that survival, recruitment, or both are demographic processes that are affected by water loss and the ability of salamanders to be surface-active, and highlight the importance of water loss to spatial population dynamics.

Understanding climate change vulnerability, adaptation and risk perceptions at household level in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated risks associated with climate change vulnerability and in response the adaptation methods used by farming communities to reduce its negative impacts on agriculture in Pakistan, and found that changing crops type and cultivation pattern, improved seed varieties, planting shaded trees and the provision of excessive fertilizers are the measures adapted to improve agricultural productivity.

TL;DR: In this article, an interactive web-based tool has been developed for mapping and combining indicators of climate change vulnerability of the elderly, by municipality, across three Nordic countries: Finland, Norway and Sweden.
