TLDR
The Enterovirus genus is a prototype example of the Picornaviridae heterogeneity at both genetic and phenotypic levels and better characterization of these ubiquitous human pathogens may help to develop vaccines or antiviral treatments and to monitor the emergence of new strains.

Viral and Prion Infections Associated with Central Nervous System Syndromes in Brazil.

TL;DR: A review of the most recent studies and findings associated with the central nervous system (CNS) in Brazil, in addition to epidemiological data that provide extensive information on the circulation and diversity of most common neuro-invasive viruses in Brazil can be found in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Physicochemical, microbiological quality, and risk assessment of water consumed by a quilombola community in midwestern Brazil

TL;DR: There was a significant positive correlation between the absence of EC and the withdrawal of water from the cistern using a pump and the opposite when the withdrawal was carried out using a bucket or hose, indicating the importance of carrying out actions aimed at improving water quality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Detection and characterization of a coxsackievirus B2 strain associated with acute meningoencephalitis, Brazil, 2018.

TL;DR: A fatal case of meningoencephalitis in a previously healthy teenager is described and the identified Coxsackievirus B2 was genetically related to strains known to cause neurological diseases.

Virus taxonomy: classification and nomenclature of viruses. Seventh report of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses.

TL;DR: This report builds on the accumulated taxonomic construction of the eight previous reports dating back to 1971 and records the proceedings of the Committee since publication of the last report in 2005.

Community study of role of viral infections in exacerbations of asthma in 9-11 year old children.

TL;DR: This study supports the hypothesis that upper respiratory viral infections are associated with 80-85% of asthma exacerbations in school age children.

Mutation rates among RNA viruses

TL;DR: This work describes a simple relation between ribovirus mutation frequencies and mutation rates, applies it to the best (albeit far from satisfactory) available data, and observes a central value for the mutation rate per genome per replication of micro(g) approximately 0.76.
Journal ArticleDOI

Virology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, and control of enterovirus 71.

TL;DR: Enterovirus 71 is a major public health issue across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, with new outbreaks occurring across Asia in regular cycles, and virus gene subgroups seem to differ in clinical epidemiological properties.
