TLDR
The Enterovirus genus is a prototype example of the Picornaviridae heterogeneity at both genetic and phenotypic levels and better characterization of these ubiquitous human pathogens may help to develop vaccines or antiviral treatments and to monitor the emergence of new strains.Citations

Potent inhibition of enterovirus D68 and human rhinoviruses by dipeptidyl aldehydes and α-ketoamides.
Yunjeong Kim,Anushka C. Galasiti Kankanamalage,Vishnu C. Damalanka,Pathum M. Weerawarna,William C. Groutas,Kyeong-Ok Chang +5 more
TL;DR: Evaluated the antiviral activity of series of dipeptidyl compounds against EV-D68 and HRV strains, and demonstrated that several peptidyl aldehyde and α-ketoamide peptidol compounds are potent inhibitors of EV- D68 andHRV strains with high in-vitro therapeutic indices (>1000).
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantification and Genetic Analysis of Salivirus/Klassevirus in Wastewater in Arizona, USA
Masaaki Kitajima,Masaaki Kitajima,Brandon C. Iker,Andri Taruna Rachmadi,Eiji Haramoto,Charles P. Gerba +5 more
TL;DR: Salivirus/klassevirus sequences were identified in 7 (15 %) wastewater samples collected in Arizona monthly for a year, with the highest concentration in influent and effluent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Salivirus and aichivirus A infections in children with gastroenteritis in Brazil
Norma Santos,Gabriella da Silva Mendes,Raquel C. Silva,Giselle P. A. Pena,Miguel Rojas,Ariane Ribeiro Amorim,Dênis Pires de Lima +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that these viruses continuously circulate in the country, although at a low frequency, as stool samples obtained from healthy children and children with diarrhoea in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil were analysed by reverse transcription PCR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antiviral potentials of Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus amylovorus, and Enterococcus hirae against selected Enterovirus.
Abidemi Anota Sunmola,Omonike O. Ogbole,Temitope Oluwasegun Cephas Faleye,Adewale Adetoye,Johnson Adekunle Adeniji,Funmilola A. Ayeni +5 more
TL;DR: The tested lactic acid bacteria strains have good antiviral properties against E7 and E19 but not against E13, while the LAB in broth suspension have better antiviral activities than their corresponding CFS and bacterial pellet.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Fecal Virome of Children with Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease that Tested PCR Negative for Pathogenic Enteroviruses.
TL;DR: A viral metagenomic approach was used to identify the eukaryotic viruses in fecal samples from 29 Thai children with clinical diagnosis of HFMD collected during the 2012 outbreak, highlighting a broad diversity of viruses found in feces from children with HFMD.

Virus taxonomy: classification and nomenclature of viruses. Seventh report of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses.
TL;DR: This report builds on the accumulated taxonomic construction of the eight previous reports dating back to 1971 and records the proceedings of the Committee since publication of the last report in 2005.
Journal ArticleDOI
Community study of role of viral infections in exacerbations of asthma in 9-11 year old children.
Sebastian L. Johnston,Philip Pattemore,G. Sanderson,Sandra Smith,F Lampe,Lynn Josephs,P. Symington,S. O'Toole,S. H. Myint,D. A. J. Tyrrell +9 more
TL;DR: This study supports the hypothesis that upper respiratory viral infections are associated with 80-85% of asthma exacerbations in school age children.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mutation rates among RNA viruses
John W. Drake,John J. Holland +1 more
TL;DR: This work describes a simple relation between ribovirus mutation frequencies and mutation rates, applies it to the best (albeit far from satisfactory) available data, and observes a central value for the mutation rate per genome per replication of micro(g) approximately 0.76.
Journal ArticleDOI
Virology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, and control of enterovirus 71.
Tom Solomon,Tom Solomon,Penny Lewthwaite,David Perera,Mary Jane Cardosa,Peter McMinn,Mong How Ooi,Mong How Ooi +7 more
TL;DR: Enterovirus 71 is a major public health issue across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, with new outbreaks occurring across Asia in regular cycles, and virus gene subgroups seem to differ in clinical epidemiological properties.
