Digestion by Barnacle Geese in the Annual Cycle : The Interplay Between Retention Time and Food Quality
TL;DR: This study examined food digestion by free-living barnacle geese Branta leucopsis in relation to food quality and retention time and found enhanced digestion allowed the geese to extend their food spectrum by exploiting mosses, which are, at least temporarily, the only plants available in the summer range.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of thyrotropin response to thyrotropin-releasing hormone by small quantities of thyroid hormones
Peter J. Snyder,Robert D. Utiger +1 more
TL;DR: The extreme sensitivity of TRH-induced TSH release to inhibition by the chronic treatment with small quantities of triiodothyronine and thyroxine which do not raise serum T(3) and T(4) levels above the normal ranges is demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Platelet-derived growth factor enhances bone cell replication, but not differentiated function of osteoblasts.
J M Hock,Ernesto Canalis +1 more
TL;DR: The studies show that PDGF-AA and -BB are mitogens affecting multiple bone cells, including those of the osteoblast and osteoclast lineage, and there was no evidence to show that cells incorporating [3H]thymidine differentiated into mature osteoblasts within the time frame of these experiments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Down syndrome and acute leukemia in children: a 10-year retrospective survey from Childrens Cancer Study Group.
Leslie L. Robison,Mark E. Nesbit,Harland Sather,Carolyn Level,Nasrollah Shahidi,Anne Kennedy,Denman Hammond +6 more
TL;DR: Analysis of findings in patients with ANLL provided results similar to those obtained for patients with ALL with regard to clinical outcome after achievement of an initial remission, and there were no significant differences with respect to remission duration, survival, or disease-free survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk Factors for Esotropia and Exotropia
Emily Y. Chew,Nancy A. Remaley,Ashlesha Tamboli,Jialiang Zhao,Marvin J. Podgor,Mark A. Klebanoff +5 more
TL;DR: Maternal cigarette smoking during pregnancy and low birth weight were independent and important risk factors for both esotropic and exotropia and there was an increased risk of esotropia with increasing maternal age.
