Risk factors and outcome of hospital-acquired acute renal failure: Clinical Epidemiologic Study

TL;DR: The development of hospital-acquired acute renal failure was associated with a marked increase in the risk of dying--the relative risk was 6.2 (2.6 to 14.9)--and amarked increase in length of stay, from a Median of 13 days in control subjects to a median of 23 days in case subjects.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pathway-specific patterns of the co-existence of substance P, calcitonin gene-related peptide, cholecystokinin and dynorphin in neurons of the dorsal root ganglia of the guinea-pig.

TL;DR: Results clearly show that individual DRG neurons can contain many different neuropeptides, and the combination of neuropePTides found in any particular neuron is related to its peripheral projection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plant-Herbivore Interactions in a North American Mixed-Grass Prairie. I. Effects of Black-Tailed Prairie Dogs on Intraseasonal Aboveground Plant Biomass and Nutrient Dynamics and Plant Species Diversity

TL;DR: In this paper, the seasonal dynamics of soil nematodes and root biomass were examined from under western wheatgrass (Agropyron smithii) and little bluestem (Andropogon scoparius) from a heavily grazed prairie dog colony occupied for 5 to 10 years and an adjacent lightly grazed, uncolonized area in Wind Cave National Park, South Dakota, USA.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of Lactobacillus buchneri, Lactobacillus plantarum, or a chemical preservative on the fermentation and aerobic stability of corn silage.

TL;DR: Inoculatingcorn silage with 1 x 10(6) cfu/g of L. buchneri resulted in a more heterolactic fermentation and dramatically improved the aerobic stability of corn silage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Classification of epileptic seizures in EEG signals based on phase space representation of intrinsic mode functions

TL;DR: New features based on the 2D and 3D PSRs of IMFs have been proposed for classification of epileptic seizure and seizure-free EEG signals.
