Valuing environmental quality changes using averting expenditures: an application to groundwater contamination
TL;DR: In this paper, the averting expenditures method for valuing environmental improvements is examined and used to approximate the economic costs of groundwater degradation to households in a southeastern Pennsylvania community, and results indicate that households' knowledge of contamination, perception of risk, and presence of children determine whether they undertake averting actions and that their expenditure levels are higher if young children are present.

Prenatal chlorpyrifos exposure in rats causes persistent behavioral alterations.
Edward D. Levin,Nii A. Addy,Avanti Baruah,Alana Elias,N. Channelle Christopher,Frederic J. Seidler,Theodore A. Slotkin +6 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that late prenatal exposure to CPF induces long-term changes in cognitive performance that are distinctly gender-selective, and promotional effects of acetylcholine (ACh) on cell differentiation may help to offset CPF-induced developmental damage that occurs through other noncholinergic mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
An in vitro method for predicting the bioavailability of iron from foods.
B S Narasinga Rao,T Prabhavathi +1 more
TL;DR: Ionizable iron at pH 7.5 determined as described in this study can be used as a reliable measure of bioavailability of nonheme iron in foods.

Protein Turnover in Skeletal Muscle I. PROTEIN CATABOLISM DURING WORK-INDUCED HYPERTROPHY AND GROWTH INDUCED WITH GROWTH HORMONE
TL;DR: It is indicated that unlike work-induced hypertrophy, growth hormone increased protein synthesis in muscle without changing protein degradative rates.
