TLDR
A marked increase in the use of international datasets for more highly evidenced-based changes in staging, and the enhanced use of nonanatomic prognostic factors in defining the stage grouping are notable.Abstract:
The American Joint Committee on Cancer and the International Union for Cancer Control update the tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) cancer staging system periodically. The most recent revision is the 7th edition, effective for cancers diagnosed on or after January 1, 2010. This editorial summarizes the background of the current revision and outlines the major issues revised. Most notable are the marked increase in the use of international datasets for more highly evidenced-based changes in staging, and the enhanced use of nonanatomic prognostic factors in defining the stage grouping. The future of cancer staging lies in the use of enhanced registry data standards to support personalization of cancer care through cancer outcome prediction models and nomograms.read more

Perineural Spread in Noncutaneous Head and Neck Cancer: New Insights into an Old Problem.
TL;DR: While clinical symptoms and physical examination may suggest the presence of neural invasion, specific imaging modalities such as fat-suppressed T1-weighted magnetic resonance images, should be utilized to identify perineural tumor spread in its early phases.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that preoperative platelet count is a useful predictor of high risk progression and poor prognosis in stage I NSCLC patients.

TL;DR: RAPN is associated with overall better perioperative morbidity and lower rates of complications, regardless of characteristics such as tumour complexity and patient comorbidity status, and functional and oncologic outcomes are equal after RARP and OPN.

TL;DR: It is found that hsa-miR-124a was downregulated during spheroid formation of the NSCLC cell lines SPC-A1 and NCI-H1650 andNSCLC tissues compared with normal lung cells and tissues, and ubiquitin-specific protease 14 (USP14) was confirmed to be a direct target of hsa.R- 124a.
