Abstract
The American Joint Committee on Cancer and the International Union for Cancer Control update the tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) cancer staging system periodically. The most recent revision is the 7th edition, effective for cancers diagnosed on or after January 1, 2010. This editorial summarizes the background of the current revision and outlines the major issues revised. Most notable are the marked increase in the use of international datasets for more highly evidenced-based changes in staging, and the enhanced use of nonanatomic prognostic factors in defining the stage grouping. The future of cancer staging lies in the use of enhanced registry data standards to support personalization of cancer care through cancer outcome prediction models and nomograms.

Evolving Diagnostic and Treatment Strategies for Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors

TL;DR: A number of biologically targeted agents targeting the VEGF and mTOR signaling pathways have recently shown promise, with recent trials showing treatment with the V EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor sunitinib or the mTOR inhibitor everolimus improves progression-free survival in patients with advanced NET.

Downstaging in Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer: A New Population Eligible for Surgery?

TL;DR: Patients with mPDAC who were fully responsive to nCT may be cautiously considered for surgery, with potential benefit in survival compared with palliative chemotherapy alone, supported by results of the largest ever reported retrospective study.

Incidental gallbladder cancer during laparoscopic cholecystectomy: Managing an unexpected finding

TL;DR: Laroscopic cholecystectomy does not affect survival if implemented properly and reoperation should have two objectives: R0 resection and clearance of the lymph nodes.

The prognostic value of micrometastases and isolated tumour cells in histologically negative lymph nodes of patients with colorectal cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

TL;DR: Patients with stage I/II colorectal cancer and MMs have a worse prognosis than patients without occult tumour cells, however, ITCs do not have a predictive value.
