Abstract
The American Joint Committee on Cancer and the International Union for Cancer Control update the tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) cancer staging system periodically. The most recent revision is the 7th edition, effective for cancers diagnosed on or after January 1, 2010. This editorial summarizes the background of the current revision and outlines the major issues revised. Most notable are the marked increase in the use of international datasets for more highly evidenced-based changes in staging, and the enhanced use of nonanatomic prognostic factors in defining the stage grouping. The future of cancer staging lies in the use of enhanced registry data standards to support personalization of cancer care through cancer outcome prediction models and nomograms.

Curative-intent surgery for hilar cholangiocarcinoma: prognostic factors for clinical decision making

TL;DR: An aggressive surgical approach has improved the survival rates in patients with HC and implies bile duct resection associated with liver resection and loco-regional lymph node dissection, which remains the main tool to assess the prognosis after resection of HC.

Postoperative nomograms predictive of survival after surgical management of malignant tumors of the major salivary glands.

TL;DR: The first nomograms to predict prognosis in an individual patient with salivary gland cancer have been developed using stepdown method to select predictors of outcome.

High Expression of FLOT1 Is Associated with Progression and Poor Prognosis in Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated FLOT1 is associated with aggressive characteristics of HCC, and the possibility of its use as a prognostic marker in patients with HCC is suggested.

Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy in oropharyngeal cancer patients treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy with concurrent chemotherapy

TL;DR: The clinical benefit of routine placement of prophylactic percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tubes was assessed in patients with oropharyngeal cancer who are undergoing intensity‐modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) with concurrent chemotherapy.
