TLDR
A marked increase in the use of international datasets for more highly evidenced-based changes in staging, and the enhanced use of nonanatomic prognostic factors in defining the stage grouping are notable.
Abstract
The American Joint Committee on Cancer and the International Union for Cancer Control update the tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) cancer staging system periodically. The most recent revision is the 7th edition, effective for cancers diagnosed on or after January 1, 2010. This editorial summarizes the background of the current revision and outlines the major issues revised. Most notable are the marked increase in the use of international datasets for more highly evidenced-based changes in staging, and the enhanced use of nonanatomic prognostic factors in defining the stage grouping. The future of cancer staging lies in the use of enhanced registry data standards to support personalization of cancer care through cancer outcome prediction models and nomograms.

ROR1 expression as a biomarker for predicting prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that ROR1 expression is correlated with malignant attributes and may serve as a novel prognostic marker and therapeutic target for colorectal cancer.

Interobserver agreement of skeletal muscle mass measurement on head and neck CT imaging at the level of the third cervical vertebra

TL;DR: Assessment of SMM at the level of C3 is easy and robust and can performed on routinely available imaging in HNC patients and the Bland–Altman plot showed good agreement between measurements, with narrow limits of agreement.

Disease‐induced and treatment‐induced alterations in body composition in locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

TL;DR: The aim of this cohort study was to assess the relationship of fat‐free mass index (FFMI) and handgrip strength (HGS) with CRT/BRT toxicity and outcome, and the effect of the current TF regime on body composition and muscle strength in patients treated with chemoradiation vs. bioradiation.
