The interpretation of HREM images of supported metal catalysts using image simulation : profile view images
S. Bernal,F.J. Botana,José J. Calvino,Carlos López-Cartes,José A. Pérez-Omil,José M. Rodríguez-Izquierdo +5 more
TLDR
In this article, the authors focus on the analysis of profile view images with reference to the fine details of the contrasts both in the metal particles and in the outer support layers, and prove that complex contrasts which very often appear in the images can be interpreted on the grounds of the structural features of the catalysts and on the recording conditions in the microscope.About:

Some recent results on metal/support interaction effects in NM/CeO2 (NM: noble metal) catalysts
S. Bernal,José J. Calvino,Miguel A. Cauqui,José M. Gatica,C. Larese,J.A. Pérez Omil,José M. Pintado +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a proposal is made about the nature of the metal/support interaction phenomena occurring in ceria-supported noble metal (NM/CeO2) catalysts as the reduction temperature is increased.

Structure shape and stability of nanometric sized particles
TL;DR: In this paper, the shape and structure of nanometer-sized particles are discussed, such as the octahedron and truncated octahedral, the icosahedron, the marks decahedric, the truncated “star-like” decahedral and the regular decahingric.

Self-assembled quantum dots in a nanowire system for quantum photonics
Martin Heiss,Yannik Fontana,Anders Gustafsson,Gunter Wüst,César Magén,David D. O'Regan,Jun-Wei Luo,Bernt Ketterer,Sonia Conesa-Boj,Andreas V. Kuhlmann,Julien Houel,Eleonora Russo-Averchi,Joan Ramon Morante,Joan Ramon Morante,Marco Cantoni,Nicola Marzari,Jordi Arbiol,Alex Zunger,Richard J. Warburton,A. Fontcuberta i Morral +19 more
TL;DR: This work presents a versatile quantum-dot-in-nanowire system that reproducibly self-assembles in core-shell GaAs/AlGaAs nanowires and shows that the origin of the optical transitions lies in quantum confinement due to Al-rich barriers.

The importance of beam alignment and crystal tilt in high resolution electron microscopy
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the influence of beam tilt and beam alignment on high-resolution electron microscopy images of crystalline materials, showing that even slight beam tilt can have a marked effect on the images of crystal materials, causing considerable spurious detail and a loss of expected symmetry.

Crystallographic structure of small gold particles studied by high-resolution electron microscopy
TL;DR: In this article, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HREM) observation and image simulation have been used in a systematic study of the volume structure of small vacuum-evaporated gold particles (1-15 nm in diameter) lying on amorphous carbon.
