Computational study on the synthesis of 1-phenyl-3,4-dihydro-β-carboline: T3P®-promoted one-pot formation from tryptamine vs. POCl3-mediated ring closure of Nb-benzoyltryptamine. The first DFT investigation of the Bischler-Napieralski reaction
Péter Ábrányi-Balogh,Péter Ábrányi-Balogh,Balázs Volk,György Keglevich,Mátyás Milen,Mátyás Milen +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of the T3P® reagent on the Bischler-Napieralski reaction has been investigated and compared with the traditional POCl 3 -promoted one.

Electronic spectra and photophysics of the α-carboline (1-azacarbazole) monomer.
TL;DR: Analysis of the UV-vis electronic absorption and emission spectra of α-carboline or 1-azacarbazole, 9H-pyrido[2,3-b]indole, AC, indicate that the polarity-polarizability, the hydrogen Bond donor and the hydrogen bond acceptor properties of the solvent preferentially stabilize the singlet excited over the ground state.

High Pressure Liquid Chromatography Analysis of Plant Alkaloids
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show examples of HPLC analysis of important classes of alkaloids, such as toxic and psychotropic, and the analytical conditions are shown in tabular form and the data provided in each example may be sufficient as a starting point for the practical analyst.

Preparation, structure and spasmolytic activities of some derivatives of harmine series of alkaloids
Sabira Begum,Syed Imran Hassan,Bina S. Siddiqui,Rehana Ifzal,Sobiya Perwaiz,Tahira Kiran,Farhana Shaheen,M. Nabeel Ghayur,Anwar H. Gilani +8 more
TL;DR: It was observed that all the N-acyl tetrahydroharmine derivatives are stable, not labile and no ring opening occurs in these compounds, as reported recently.

The isolation of harmane and norharmane from tobacco and cigarette smoke
E.H. Poindexter,R.D. Carpenter +1 more
TL;DR: Harmane and norharmane were isolated from cured tobacco and its smoke and the addition of radioactive tryptophan to the tobacco resulted in the isolation of radioactive harmane alkaloids in the smoke, establishing the presence of indole alkaloid in tobacco.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interactions of norharman and harman with DNA
TL;DR: Agarose gel electrophoresis of circular DNA, closed in the presence or absence of norharman revealed that the dye intercalates DNA, thereby causing 17 +/- 3 degrees unwinding of the double helix.
