Background subtraction methods for precision measurements of di-hadron and jet-hadron correlations in heavy ion collisions

TL;DR: In this article, a method for determining the background using a fit to the reaction plane dependence of the background-dominated region of the near side to extract the background is presented, and the results are compared to results from two variants of the zero-yield-at-minimum (ZYAM) method.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chemical freeze-out parameters in Beam Energy Scan Program of STAR at RHIC

TL;DR: The first phase of the Beam Energy Scan (BES-I) program at RHIC has completed its first phase to understand the phase structure of the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and the bulk properties of the system formed in Au+Au collisions at different center of mass energy √sNN = 7.7, 11.5, 19.6, 27, and 39 GeV as discussed by the authors.

Probing strongly interacting atomic gases with energetic atoms

TL;DR: In this paper, the operator product expansion is used to systematically compute a quasiparticle energy and its scattering rate both in a spin-1/2 Fermi gas and in spinless Bose gas.

Jet Propagation and Mach-Cone Formation in (3+1)-dimensional Ideal Hydrodynamics

Barbara Betz
TL;DR: In this article, the jet-medium interactions in a quark-gluon plasma using a hydrodynamical model were investigated, where the creation of Mach cones which are supposed to exhibit a characteristic structure in the measured angular particle distributions allowing for direct conclusions about the Equation of State and the speed of sound of the medium.

Elliptic flow at RHIC and LHC in the string percolation approach

TL;DR: In this paper, the percolation of strings gives a good description of the RHIC experimental data on the elliptic flow, and predicted a rise on the integrated φ 2 of the order of 25% at LHC such as has been experimentally obtained.
