The work function of the elements and its periodicity
TLDR
In the data for the 63 elements, trends that occur simultaneously in both the columns and the rows of the periodic table are shown to be useful in predicting correct values and also for identifying questionable data.Abstract:
A new compilation, based on a literature search for the period 1969–1976, is made of experimental data on the work function. For these 44 elements, preferred values are selected on the basis of valid experimental conditions. Older values, which are widely accepted, are given for 19 other elements on which there is no recent literature, and are so identified. In the data for the 63 elements, trends that occur simultaneously in both the columns and the rows of the periodic table are shown to be useful in predicting correct values and also for identifying questionable data. Several illustrative examples are given, including verifications of predictions published in 1950.read more

Transfer characteristics in graphene field-effect transistors with Co contacts
TL;DR: Graphene field effect transistors with Co contacts as source and drain electrodes show anomalous distorted transfer characteristics as discussed by the authors, and the anomaly appears only in short-channel devices and originates from a contact-induced effect.

Insights into the effects of metal nanostructuring and oxidation on the work function and charge transfer of metal/graphene hybrids.

TL;DR: It is shown that when the appropriate WF of the metal is considered, without any assumption, taking into account WF variations by nanostructure and/or oxidation, a linear relationship between the metal WF and the doping of graphene is found.

Raman scattering of linear chains of strongly coupled Ag nanoparticles on SWCNTs
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that both the UV photoreduction of silver and the presence of SWCNTs are necessary to produce this very strong Raman scattering.

TL;DR: In this paper, indium doped zinc oxide (IZO) nanoparticles were prepared via polyol-mediated synthesis and incorporated into regular and inverted poly-(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) and [6,6]-phenyl C 61 -butyric acid methyl ester organic photovoltaic devices as buffer layers between the active layer and the cathode.

TL;DR: In this article, the work functions of the bulk crystals and of silver films formed upon them by auto-epitaxy were determined photoelectrically, and the results support the Smoluchowski correlation of work function with surface atom density.

Work Functions of the Elements
TL;DR: The work function φ is a periodic function of atomic number, as shown clearly by a new compilation of published data for 57 elements as mentioned in this paper, and the progressive rise and fall of work function values throughout the table of the elements appears to be sufficiently regular to permit approximations to be made of values for the metallic and semimetallic elements on which no data has yet been published.

Anisotropic work function of clean and smooth low-index faces of aluminium
TL;DR: In this paper, the anisotropic work function of smooth (100), smooth (111), and (110) faces of a single crystal were cleaned through a mild cyclic treatment of ion bombardment and annealing.
