The work function of the elements and its periodicity

A new compilation, based on a literature search for the period 1969–1976, is made of experimental data on the work function. For these 44 elements, preferred values are selected on the basis of valid experimental conditions. Older values, which are widely accepted, are given for 19 other elements on which there is no recent literature, and are so identified. In the data for the 63 elements, trends that occur simultaneously in both the columns and the rows of the periodic table are shown to be useful in predicting correct values and also for identifying questionable data. Schottky barriers in carbon nanotube-metal contacts
TL;DR: In this article, the Schottky barrier height between metal and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) has been investigated and several contradicting conclusions have been reached. But, since experimental techniques commonly used to study contacts to bulk materials cannot be exploited and studies often have been performed on only single or a few devices, there is a large discrepancy in the reported height of Schotty barrier heights.

Theoretical study of n-alkane adsorption on metal surfaces
TL;DR: In this paper, the interaction between n-alkane and metal surfaces has been studied by means of density-functional theoretical calculations within a generalized gradient approximation (GGA), and it was shown that although the GGA cannot reproduce the physisorption energy well, their calculations can reproduce the experimentally observed work-function change and softening of the CH stretching mode reasonably well.
