The work function of the elements and its periodicity
TLDR
In the data for the 63 elements, trends that occur simultaneously in both the columns and the rows of the periodic table are shown to be useful in predicting correct values and also for identifying questionable data.Abstract:
A new compilation, based on a literature search for the period 1969–1976, is made of experimental data on the work function. For these 44 elements, preferred values are selected on the basis of valid experimental conditions. Older values, which are widely accepted, are given for 19 other elements on which there is no recent literature, and are so identified. In the data for the 63 elements, trends that occur simultaneously in both the columns and the rows of the periodic table are shown to be useful in predicting correct values and also for identifying questionable data. Several illustrative examples are given, including verifications of predictions published in 1950.read more

Formic acid as the in-situ hydrogen source for catalytic reduction of nitrate in water by PdAg alloy nanoparticles supported on amine-functionalized SiO2
TL;DR: In this paper, the PdAg/SiO2-NH2 catalyst was developed by first loading Pd onto NH2 surface modified SiO2 catalyst support, followed by a controlled surface reaction to load Ag and create Pd Ag alloy nanoparticles on SiO 2-NH 2 catalyst support.

Nanoscale mapping of excitonic processes in single-layer MoS2 using tip-enhanced photoluminescence microscopy
TL;DR: This research shows that unlike in aperture-scanning near field microscopy, preferential exciton emission mapping at the nanoscale using TEPL and Raman mapping using TERS can be obtained simultaneously using this method that can be used to correlate the structural and excitonic properties.

TL;DR: In this article, an ion mobility technique was employed to measure the size-resolved native work function of structure controlled nanoparticles in free flight, and it was shown that the Fowler-Nordheim law is applicable to not only spheres but also aggregates.

TL;DR: In this article, the work functions of the bulk crystals and of silver films formed upon them by auto-epitaxy were determined photoelectrically, and the results support the Smoluchowski correlation of work function with surface atom density.

Work Functions of the Elements
TL;DR: The work function φ is a periodic function of atomic number, as shown clearly by a new compilation of published data for 57 elements as mentioned in this paper, and the progressive rise and fall of work function values throughout the table of the elements appears to be sufficiently regular to permit approximations to be made of values for the metallic and semimetallic elements on which no data has yet been published.
