Triassic radiolarian biostratigraphy

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a correlation of currently used radiolarian zonations established in North America, Europe, Japan and Far East Russia and provide an up-to-date stratigraphic distribution of all hitherto described and still valid Triassic genera.
Journal ArticleDOI

Taking planetary nutrient boundaries seriously: Can we feed the people?

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors suggest that anthropogenic nutrient flows may have transgressed the regulatory capacity of the earth, and the food supply is limited more by reducing the excessive flows than by phosphorus (P) reserves or population growth.
Journal ArticleDOI

Making time count: Traveler activity engagement on urban transit

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present results from jointly estimated models of travelers' latent satisfaction and on-board activity engagement using Chicago transit rider data gathered in April 2010, and they affirm the need for a more holistic understanding of value of time for travel demand management and infrastructure valuation.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Relativistic Quantum-Chemical Analysis of the trans Influence on 1H NMR Hydride Shifts in Square-Planar Platinum(II) Complexes

TL;DR: Empirical correlations between characteristic (1)H NMR shifts in Pt(II) hydrides with trans ligand influence series, Pt-H distances, and (195)Pt shifts are analyzed at various levels of including relativistic effects into density-functional calculations, indicating some limitations of the simple one-parameter correlations.

Potential impact of investments in drought tolerant maize in Africa

TL;DR: La Rovere et al. as discussed by the authors evaluated the potential impacts of the Drought Tolerant Maize for Africa (DTMA) project run by CIMMYT and the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in 13 countries of eastern, southern and West Africa, describing cumulative economic and poverty reduction benefits to farmers and consumers in those countries over 2007-16, from higher yields and from diminished season-to-season yield fluctuations, through the adoption by farmers of improved, drought tolerant maize varieties.

Impact Evaluation of a Conditional Cash Transfer Program: The Nicaraguan Red de Proteccion Social

TL;DR: The impact evaluation of a conditional cash transfer program was performed by the Nicaraguan Red de Proteccion Social (RPS) as discussed by the authors, which evaluated the effectiveness of the program.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Case for Randomized Field Trials in Economic and Policy Research

TL;DR: The advantages and disadvantages of experiments in comparison with other research techniques are examined and the circumstances where randomized trials should be preferred over other methods are described.

An evaluation of the impact of progresa on pre-school child height

TL;DR: One of the major components of the PROGRESA program has been directed toward improving the nutritional status of small children in poor rural communities in Mexico as mentioned in this paper, which has been shown to have a substantial effect on lifetime productivities and earnings of currently small children.
Posted ContentDOI

Progressing through progresa: an impact assessment of a school subsidy experiment

TL;DR: The authors used a Markov schooling transition model applied to the experimental data to assess the impact of the educational subsidy program along several dimensions, including effects on initial ages of school entry, dropout rates, grade repetition rates, and school reentry rates.

A New Approach to Social Assistance: Latin America’s Experience with Conditional Cash Transfer Programs

TL;DR: Conditional cash transfer as discussed by the authors is a departure from more traditional approaches to social assistance, that represents an innovative, and increasingly popular channel for the delivery of social services that represents a demand-side complement to the supply of health, and education services.
