New intermolecular benchmark calculations on the water dimer: SAPT and supermolecular post-Hartree-Fock approaches

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed accurate intermolecular benchmarks for the 10 standardized water dimers initially proposed by van Duijneveldt et al., following a study by Smith et al. using the popular triple-zeta aug-cc- pVTZ basis set.
Journal ArticleDOI

Uranium-series ages of fossil corals from Mallorca, Spain: The“Neotyrrhenian” high stand of the Mediterranean Sea revisited

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed that the Neotyrrhenian deposits are a beachrock facies of the same age as the Eutyrrhensian deposits, which explains the differences in physical sedimentology of the two deposits, explains the U-series and amino acid data indicating the same ages.
Journal ArticleDOI

Elastic depolarization of OH(A) by He and Ar: a comparative study.

TL;DR: The experimental data for OH(A) + Ar are compared in detail with the results of quasi-classical trajectory calculations that accommodate the effects of electron spin, and suggest that elastic depolarization plays a relatively minor role in the loss of the polarization signal compared with RET.

Developing trustworthy timss background measures: a case study on mathematics attitude

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined whether, for a large number of the TIMSS countries, trustworthy TIMSS measures of several dimensions of mathematics attitude can be developed by focusing on self-confidence in learning mathematics, usefulness of mathematics, and liking mathematics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Swing of the surgical pendulum : A return to surgery for treatment of head and neck cancer in the 21st century?

TL;DR: As the pendulum swings back, a scientific approach using tissue biomarkers for the response to treatment in the setting of multidisciplinary trials must emerge as the new paradigm.

Impact Evaluation of a Conditional Cash Transfer Program: The Nicaraguan Red de Proteccion Social

TL;DR: The impact evaluation of a conditional cash transfer program was performed by the Nicaraguan Red de Proteccion Social (RPS) as discussed by the authors, which evaluated the effectiveness of the program.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Case for Randomized Field Trials in Economic and Policy Research

TL;DR: The advantages and disadvantages of experiments in comparison with other research techniques are examined and the circumstances where randomized trials should be preferred over other methods are described.

An evaluation of the impact of progresa on pre-school child height

TL;DR: One of the major components of the PROGRESA program has been directed toward improving the nutritional status of small children in poor rural communities in Mexico as mentioned in this paper, which has been shown to have a substantial effect on lifetime productivities and earnings of currently small children.
Posted ContentDOI

Progressing through progresa: an impact assessment of a school subsidy experiment

TL;DR: The authors used a Markov schooling transition model applied to the experimental data to assess the impact of the educational subsidy program along several dimensions, including effects on initial ages of school entry, dropout rates, grade repetition rates, and school reentry rates.

A New Approach to Social Assistance: Latin America’s Experience with Conditional Cash Transfer Programs

TL;DR: Conditional cash transfer as discussed by the authors is a departure from more traditional approaches to social assistance, that represents an innovative, and increasingly popular channel for the delivery of social services that represents a demand-side complement to the supply of health, and education services.
