Linking climate change and development goals: framing, integrating, and measuring
TL;DR: In this article, a review of the links between the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and climate change goals of adaptation and mitigation is presented, and the authors suggest that tools are needed to more effectively capture interactions within decision-making processes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Morph-specific protein patterns in the femoral gland secretions of a colour polymorphic lizard.
Marco Mangiacotti,Marco Fumagalli,Maddalena Cagnone,Simona Viglio,Anna Bardoni,Stefano Scali,Roberto Sacchi +6 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that colour polymorphic lizards may use a multimodal signal to inform about colour-morph support the hypothesis that proteins from femoral gland secretions represent the ideal cues to build up the chemical modality used to badge colour morphs.
Journal ArticleDOI
A comprehensive sensitivity and uncertainty analysis for discharge and nitrate-nitrogen loads involving multiple discrete model inputs under future changing conditions
Christoph Schürz,Brigitta Hollosi,Christoph Matulla,Alexander Pressl,Thomas Ertl,Karsten Schulz,Bano Mehdi +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors applied the eco-hydrological model Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) to simulate discharge and nitrogen-nitrogen (NO3-N) loads under future changing conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nuclear deterrence and the logic of deliberative mindreading
TL;DR: A new computational-logic framework that allows formalization of mindreading of a rather more demanding sort, deliberative multi-agent mindreading, applied to the realm of nuclear strategy is introduced and a set of desiderata is presented that any modeling framework should satisy to be able to capture deliberativemulti- agent mindreading in domains such as nuclear deterrence.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of spatial scale and area in determining richness-altitude gradients in Swedish lake phytoplankton communities
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed lake phytoplankton richness data to reveal the effects of area and scale on the richness-elevation relationship and suggested that geometric constraints, differences in the possibility of horizontal and vertical dispersal, environmental heterogeneity and an underlying monotonic trend in productivity are likely to be responsible for the patterns in alpha and gamma diversity observed along elevation gradients.

Impact Evaluation of a Conditional Cash Transfer Program: The Nicaraguan Red de Proteccion Social
John A. Maluccio,Rafael Flores +1 more
TL;DR: The impact evaluation of a conditional cash transfer program was performed by the Nicaraguan Red de Proteccion Social (RPS) as discussed by the authors, which evaluated the effectiveness of the program.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Case for Randomized Field Trials in Economic and Policy Research
TL;DR: The advantages and disadvantages of experiments in comparison with other research techniques are examined and the circumstances where randomized trials should be preferred over other methods are described.

An evaluation of the impact of progresa on pre-school child height
Jere R. Behrman,John Hoddinott +1 more
TL;DR: One of the major components of the PROGRESA program has been directed toward improving the nutritional status of small children in poor rural communities in Mexico as mentioned in this paper, which has been shown to have a substantial effect on lifetime productivities and earnings of currently small children.
Posted ContentDOI
Progressing through progresa: an impact assessment of a school subsidy experiment
TL;DR: The authors used a Markov schooling transition model applied to the experimental data to assess the impact of the educational subsidy program along several dimensions, including effects on initial ages of school entry, dropout rates, grade repetition rates, and school reentry rates.

A New Approach to Social Assistance: Latin America’s Experience with Conditional Cash Transfer Programs
TL;DR: Conditional cash transfer as discussed by the authors is a departure from more traditional approaches to social assistance, that represents an innovative, and increasingly popular channel for the delivery of social services that represents a demand-side complement to the supply of health, and education services.
