Journal ArticleDOI
Genotype-Environment Interaction in Human Obesity
Louis Pérusse,Claude Bouchard +1 more
TL;DR: The data reviewed in this paper reveal that individual differences in the response to alterations in energy balance induced by diet or exercise are ubiquitous and it is likely that genetic variation at several genes contributes to this heterogeneity of responses and thus to the susceptibility to obesity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Competing targets of microRNA-608 affect anxiety and hypertension
Geula Hanin,Shani Shenhar-Tsarfaty,Nadav Yayon,Yin Hoe Yau,Estelle R. Bennett,Ella H. Sklan,Dabeeru C. Rao,Tuomo Rankinen,Claude Bouchard,Susana Geifman-Shochat,Sagiv Shifman,David S. Greenberg,Hermona Soreq +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors showed that miR-608 targets acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and demonstrate weakened miRNA-608 interaction with the rs17228616 AChE allele having a single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the 3'-untranslated region (3'UTR).
Prevalence of Risk Factors for Metabolic Syndrome in Adolescents
William D. Johnson,Jolanda J. M. Kroon,Frank L. Greenway,Claude Bouchard,Donna H. Ryan,Peter T. Katzmarzyk +5 more
TL;DR: A large waist circumference and high fasting triglyceride and low high-density lipoprotein serum cholesterol concentrations were salient factors in Hispanic and white adolescents of both sexes; high glucose concentrations were prominent among Hispanic andwhite males.
Journal ArticleDOI
The utility of the international child and adolescent overweight guidelines for predicting coronary heart disease risk factors
TL;DR: Evidence that the international cutoffs are related to health risks in youth, supporting the adoption of the guidelines is added, as are the results of the Québec Family Study.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide linkage scan for physical activity levels in the Quebec Family study.
Riitta L Simonen,Tuomo Rankinen,Louis Pérusse,Treva Rice,D. C. Rao,Yvon C. Chagnon,Claude Bouchard,Quebec Family Study +7 more
TL;DR: This study identified several chromosomal regions harboring genes that may contribute to the propensity to be physically active or sedentary.
