Meta-analysis of genome-wide studies identifies WNT16 and ESR1 SNPs associated with bone mineral density in premenopausal women
Daniel L. Koller,Hou-Feng Zheng,David Karasik,David Karasik,Laura M. Yerges-Armstrong,Ching-Ti Liu,Fiona E. McGuigan,John P. Kemp,Sylvie Giroux,Dongbing Lai,Howard J. Edenberg,Munro Peacock,Stefan A. Brent Richards,Douglas P. Kiel,Tatiana Foroud +35 more
TL;DR: Several of the genes contributing to BMD variation across a broad age range in both sexes have effects of similar magnitude on BMD of the spine in premenopausal women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Asthma and internalizing behavior problems in adolescence: a longitudinal study.
TL;DR: Children who have asthma/bronchitis by the age of 5 are at greater risk of having internalizing behavior problems in adolescence, and those who had asthma at 5 years had greater odds of developing internalizing symptoms at age 14.
Journal ArticleDOI
Is There a Fetal Origin of Depression? Evidence from the Mater University Study of Pregnancy and Its Outcomes
Rosa Alati,Debbie A Lawlor,Abdullah Al Mamun,Gail M. Williams,Jake M. Najman,Michael O'Callaghan,Michael O'Callaghan,William Bor,William Bor +8 more
TL;DR: The association of birth weight with adult symptoms of depression was examined in an Australian prospective birth cohort and it is suggested that the association is not explained by maternal mental health characteristics during pregnancy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mendelian randomization studies do not support a role for raised circulating triglyceride levels influencing type 2 diabetes, glucose levels, or insulin resistance.
N. Maneka G. De Silva,Rachel M. Freathy,Tom Palmer,Louise A. Donnelly,Jian'an Luan,Tom R. Gaunt,Claudia Langenberg,Michael N. Weedon,Beverley M. Shields,Beatrice Knight,Kirsten J. Ward,Manjinder S. Sandhu,Roger M. Harbord,Mark I. McCarthy,George Davey Smith,Shah B. Ebrahim,Andrew T. Hattersley,Nicholas J. Wareham,Debbie A Lawlor,Andrew D. Morris,Colin N. A. Palmer,Timothy M. Frayling +21 more
TL;DR: Genetically raised circulating triglyceride levels do not increase the risk of type 2 diabetes or raise fasting glucose or fasting insulin levels in nondiabetic individuals, and one explanation for the results is that raised circulating lipid levels are predominantly secondary to the diabetes disease process rather than causal.
Journal ArticleDOI
Physical activity in older women: associations with area deprivation and with socioeconomic position over the life course: observations in the British Women’s Heart and Health Study
TL;DR: Adverse socioeconomic position across the life-course is associated with an increased cumulative risk of low physical activity in older women and reducing socioeconomic inequalities across thelife course would thus be expected to improve levels of physical activity and the associated health benefits in later life.
