Cost of cardiac care in the three years after coronary catheterization in a contained care system : Critical determinants and implications

TL;DR: Variables readily available from a comprehensive cardiovascular database explained 57% to 71% of cardiac costs from a hospital perspective over 3 years of care; the initial revascularization strategy was a key determinant of in-hospital costs, but over3 years, the initial treatment become somewhat less important, and late complications became more important determinants of costs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Revisiting optimal anticoagulation with unfractionated heparin during coronary stent implantation.

TL;DR: Using univariate and multivariate analyses, the relation between ischemic and bleeding complications and peak procedural activated clotting time (ACT) in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention whose coronary narrowings were treated with stent implantation was evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Clopidogrel with aspirin is the optimal antiplatelet regimen for intracoronary stenting.

TL;DR: The generalized application of this dual antiplatelet regimen has contributed to a tripling of the number of patients treated with stents from 1995 to 1998, and the available data suggest that clopidogrel offers all of the beneys of ticlopidine without its limitations, making it the optimal agent to use in conjunction with aspirin in coronary stenting.
Journal ArticleDOI

AlzEye: longitudinal record-level linkage of ophthalmic imaging and hospital admissions of 353 157 patients in London, UK

TL;DR: AlzEye combines the world’s largest single institution retinal imaging database with nationally collected systemic data to create an exceptional large-scale, enriched cohort that reflects the diversity of the population served.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparison of ionic versus nonionic contrast medium during primary percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty for acute myocardial infarction (GUSTO IIb)

TL;DR: The clinical outcomes of patients who received ionic versus nonionic low osmolar contrast medium in the setting of primary percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty for AMI in the second GUSTO IIb trial are compared and warrant further elucidation by a randomized study design in this setting.
