The Genome Sequence of Mannheimia haemolytica A1: Insights into Virulence, Natural Competence, and Pasteurellaceae Phylogeny
Jason Gioia,Xiang Qin,Huaiyang Jiang,Kenneth D. Clinkenbeard,Reggie Y.C. Lo,Yamei Liu,George E. Fox,Shailaja Yerrapragada,Michael P. McLeod,Thomas Z. McNeill,Lisa Hemphill,Erica Sodergren,Qiaoyan Wang,Donna M. Muzny,Farah J. Homsi,George M. Weinstock,Sarah K. Highlander +16 more
TL;DR: Genes related to iron acquisition and drug resistance were identified and are likely important for survival in the host and virulence, and analysis of the genome indicates that M. haemolytica is naturally competent, as genes for natural competence and DNA uptake signal sequences (USS) are present.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic diversity in Treponema pallidum: implications for pathogenesis, evolution and molecular diagnostics of syphilis and yaws.
TL;DR: Genome analyses of pathogenic uncultivable treponemes revealed striking similarity among these bacteria and also a high degree of similarity to the rabbit pathogen, Treponema paraluiscuniculi, a trePoneme not infectious to humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
The upper-airway microbiota and loss of asthma control among asthmatic children
Yanjiao Zhou,Daniel J. Jackson,Leonard B. Bacharier,David T. Mauger,Homer A. Boushey,Mario Castro,Juliana Durack,Yvonne J. Huang,Robert F. Lemanske,Gregory A. Storch,George M. Weinstock,Kristine M. Wylie,Ronina A. Covar,Anne M. Fitzpatrick,Wanda Phipatanakul,Rachel G. Robison,Avraham Beigelman,Avraham Beigelman +17 more
TL;DR: The authors analyse nasal samples of cohort of school-age children with persistent asthma and find that the microbiota’s patterns and composition at time of early loss of asthma control associate with severe asthma exacerbations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Measurement of in vivo expression of the recA gene of Escherichia coli by using lacZ gene fusions.
TL;DR: RecA+ strains carrying either the protein or operon fusion on a multicopy plasmid showed reduced survival after UV irradiation, however, this UV sensitivity was not exhibited by strains containing a single copy of either fusion; hence, the fusions provide a reliable measure of recA expression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bifidobacterium bifidum strains synergize with immune checkpoint inhibitors to reduce tumour burden in mice
Se-Hoon Lee,Se-Hoon Lee,Sung Yup Cho,Youngmin Yoon,Changho Park,Jinyoung Sohn,Jin Ju Jeong,Bu-Nam Jeon,Mongjoo Jang,Choa An,Suro Lee,Yun Yeon Kim,Gihyeon Kim,Sujeong Kim,Yunjae Kim,Gwang Bin Lee,Eun Ju Lee,Sang Gyun Kim,Hong Sook Kim,Yeongmin Kim,Hyun Young Kim,Hyun Yang,Sarang Kim,Seong-Gon Kim,Hayung Chung,Myeong Hee Moon,Myung Hee Nam,Jee Young Kwon,Sungho Won,Joon Suk Park,George M. Weinstock,Charles Lee,Charles Lee,Kyoung Wan Yoon,Hansoo Park +34 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors integrated metagenomics, genomics and transcriptomics of bacteria, and analyses of mouse intestinal transcriptome and serum metabolome data to reveal an additional mechanism by which bacteria determine the efficacy of cancer therapeutics.
