TL;DR: A large-scale assessment suggests that experimental reproducibility in psychology leaves a lot to be desired, and correlational tests suggest that replication success was better predicted by the strength of original evidence than by characteristics of the original and replication teams.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of sexual dimorphism on facial attractiveness
David I. Perrett,Kieran J Lee,Kieran J Lee,Ian S. Penton-Voak,Duncan Rowland,Sakiko Yoshikawa,D. M. Burt,S. P. Henzi,D. L. Castles,Shigeru Akamatsu +9 more
TL;DR: The results of asking subjects to choose the most attractive faces from continua that enhanced or diminished differences between the average shape of female and male faces indicate a selection pressure that limits sexual dimorphism and encourages neoteny in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Menstrual cycle alters face preference
Ian S. Penton-Voak,David I. Perrett,D. L. Castles,D. L. Castles,Tsuneo Kobayashi,D. M. Burt,Lindsey K Murray,R. Minamisawa +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that female preference for secondary sexual traits in male face shapes varies with the probability of conception across the menstrual cycle, similar to that of men with low fluctuating asymmetry.
Journal ArticleDOI
Symmetry and human facial attractiveness.
David I. Perrett,D. Michael Burt,Ian S. Penton-Voak,Kieran J Lee,Duncan Rowland,Rachel Edwards +5 more
TL;DR: For example, this article found that increasing symmetry of face shape increases ratings of attractiveness for both male and female faces, which suggests facial symmetry may have a positive impact on mate selection in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Female preference for male faces changes cyclically: Further evidence
TL;DR: In this article, the authors employed computer graphic techniques to manipulate the "masculinity" or "femininity" of a composite male face by exaggerating or reducing the shape differences between female and male average faces.
