Journal ArticleDOI
Consensus proposals for a unified system of nomenclature of hepatitis C virus genotypes.
Peter Simmonds,Jens Bukh,Christophe Combet,Gilbert Deléage,Nobuyuki Enomoto,Stephen M. Feinstone,Phillippe Halfon,Geneviève Inchauspé,Carla Kuiken,Geert Maertens,Masashi Mizokami,Donald G. Murphy,Hiroaki Okamoto,Jean-Michel Pawlotsky,François Penin,Erwin Sablon,Tadasu Shin-I,Lieven Stuyver,Heinz-Jürgen Thiel,Sergei Viazov,Amy J. Weiner,Anders Widell +21 more
TL;DR: These proposals provide the framework by which the HCV databases store and provide access to data on HCV, which will internationally coordinate the assignment of new genotypes and subtypes in the future.
Journal ArticleDOI
Classification of hepatitis C virus into six major genotypes and a series of subtypes by phylogenetic analysis of the NS-5 region
Peter Simmonds,Edward C. Holmes,Tai-An Cha,Shiu-Wan Chan,F. McOmish,Irvine Bruce,Beall Eileen,P L Yap,Janice A. Kolberg,Mickey S. Urdea +9 more
TL;DR: A new nomenclature for HCV variants is proposed in this communication that reflects the two-tiered nature of sequence differences between different viral isolates and describes criteria that would enable new variants to be assigned within the classification as they are discovered.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expanded classification of hepatitis C virus into 7 genotypes and 67 subtypes: Updated criteria and genotype assignment web resource
D B Smith,Jens Bukh,Carla Kuiken,A. Scott Muerhoff,Charles M. Rice,Jack T. Stapleton,Peter Simmonds +6 more
TL;DR: This study represents a major update to the previous consensus HCV classification, incorporating additional sequence information derived from over 1,300 (near‐)complete genome sequences of HCV available on public databases in May 2013.
Journal ArticleDOI
A proposed system for the nomenclature of hepatitis C viral genotypes
Peter Simmonds,A. Alberti,Harvey J. Alter,Ferruccio Bonino,Daniel W. Bradley,Christian Bréchot,Johannes T. Brouwer,Shiu-Wan Chan,Kazuaki Chayama,Ding-Shinn Chen +9 more
