TL;DR: The results of an international collaboration to produce and make freely available a draft sequence of the human genome are reported and an initial analysis is presented, describing some of the insights that can be gleaned from the sequence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mutations of a mutS homolog in hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer
Fredrick S. Leach,Nicholas C. Nicolaides,Nickolas Papadopoulos,Bo Liu,Jin Jen,Ramon Parsons,Päivi Peltomäki,Pertti Sistonen,Lauri A. Aaltonen,Minna Nyström-Lahti,Xin Yuan Guan,Ji Zhang,Paul S. Trent,Albert de la Chapelle,Kenneth W. Kinzler,Bert Vogelstein +34 more
TL;DR: Somatic as well as germline mutations of the gene were identified in RER+ tumor cells, and this mutS homolog is likely to be responsible for HNPCC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Myotonic Dystrophy Type 2 Caused by a CCTG Expansion in Intron 1 of ZNF9
Christina L. Liquori,Kenneth Ricker,Melinda L. Moseley,Jennifer F. Jacobsen,Wolfram Kress,Susan L. Naylor,John W. Day,Laura P.W. Ranum +7 more
TL;DR: DM2 is caused by a CCTG expansion located in intron 1 of the zinc finger protein 9 (ZNF9) gene, indicating that microsatellite expansions in RNA can be pathogenic and cause the multisystemic features of DM1 and DM2.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human Lymphotoxin and tumor necrosis factor genes: structure, homology and chromosomal localization
Glenn Evan Nedwin,Susan L. Naylor,Alan Y. Sakaguchi,Douglas H. Smith,Julie Jarrett-Nedwin,Diane Pennica,David V. Goeddel,Patrick W. Gray +7 more
TL;DR: Human Tumor Necrosis Factor and Lymphotoxin are cytotoxic proteins which have similar biological activities and share 30 percent amino acid homology.
Book ChapterDOI
Deletions of the short arm of chromosome 3 in solid tumors and the search for suppressor genes
TL;DR: Though hMLH1 plays an obvious role in the development of specific mismatch repair-deficient cancers, it cannot revert the tumor phenotype and therefore cannot be considered a proper tumor suppressor, and this review discusses the methodological advantages and limitations of the various approaches.
