TL;DR: The observed relationship between high blood glucose level and outcome after cardiac arrest suggests the need to test a strategy combining both control of glycemia and minimization of glycemic variations for its ability to improve post-resuscitation care.
Abstract: Introduction
The influence of blood glucose (BG) level during the post-resuscitation period after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is still debated. To evaluate the relationship between blood glucose level and outcome, we included the median glycemia and its maximal amplitude over the first 48 h following ICU admission in an analysis of outcome predictors.

TL;DR: The analytical utility of the proposed sensor was evaluated by the successful determination of BHA in coconut oil and sesame oil samples and its kinetics parameters such as heterogeneous electron transfer rate, ks, and charge transfer coefficient,α, was calculated.
Abstract: Electrochemical behavior of artificial antioxidant, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), was investigated at a glassy carbon electrode modified with poly L- cysteine [poly (L- Cys/GCE)]. BHA exhibits a pair of well - defined redox peak on L- cysteine modified GCE with Epa = 69 mV and Epc = 4 mV. The modified electrode showed good electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of BHA under optimal conditions and exhibited a linear response in the range from 1.0 × 10(-5) to 1.0 × 10(-6) M with a correlation coefficient of 0.998. The limit of detection was found to be 4.1 × 10(-7) M. The kinetics parameters of the proposed sensor such as heterogeneous electron transfer rate, k s , and charge transfer coefficient,α, was calculated and found to be 1.20 s(-1) and 0.575 respectively. The average surface concentration of BHA on the surface of poly (L- Cys/GCE) was calculated to be 3.18 × 10(-4) mol cm(-2). The analytical utility of the proposed sensor was evaluated by the successful determination of BHA in coconut oil and sesame oil samples.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show optical micrographs of two patterned polyimide substrates with liquid crystals sandwiched between them, viewed between parallel polarizers, viewed by a pair of polarizers.
Abstract: Thin polyimide layers have been patterned via a -rubbing process that can induce the homogeneous planar alignment or erase the previous alignment history of liquid crystals (LCs) that it comes into contact with. The Figure shows optical micrographs of two patterned polyimide substrates with LCs sandwiched between them, viewed between parallel polarizers. See also inside front cover.

TL;DR: In this article, a switch over from saturable absorption to reverse saturation absorption was observed when the input intensity is increased from 28.1 to 175.8 MW/cm2, due to the interplay between ground state plasmon band bleaching and excited state absorption.
Abstract: Silver nano-colloid was prepared by chemical reduction method and its nonlinear absorption properties were investigated by using open aperture z-scan experiment with nanosecond laser pulses operating at 532 nm. Interestingly, a switch over from saturable absorption to reverse saturable absorption was observed when the input intensity is increased from 28.1 to 175.8 MW/cm2. The underlying mechanism responsible for the observed switching behaviour is the interplay between ground state plasmon band bleaching and excited state absorption. Theoretical fitting was done by using a model in which nonlinear absorption coefficient as well as saturation intensity are incorporated.
