Abstract: This paper introduces "twisted Edwards curves," a generalization of the recently introduced Edwards curves; shows that twisted Edwards curves include more curves over finite fields, and in particular every elliptic curve in Montgomery form; shows how to cover even more curves via isogenies; presents fast explicit formulas for twisted Edwards curves in projective and inverted coordinates; and shows that twisted Edwards curves save time for many curves that were already expressible as Edwards curves.

Abstract: It has recently been demonstrated that the hopping mobility in semiconducting organic materials depends on the charge-carrier concentration. We have analyzed this effect within the framework of six existing semianalytical models, for the case of a Gaussian density of states (DOS). These models were either not applied earlier to the case of a Gaussian DOS, or are shown to require a major modification. The mobility is constant below a certain concentration, which decreases with increasing ratio $\stackrel{\ifmmode \hat{}\else \^{}\fi{}}{s}$ of the width of the DOS over the thermal energy ${k}_{B}T$, and it increases for larger concentrations. At very high concentrations final state effects limit this increase or even give rise to a decrease. An analytical expression is given for the mobility, $\ensuremath{\mu}$, in the form of the product of the mobility in the low concentration limit times a concentration $(c)$ and $\stackrel{\ifmmode \hat{}\else \^{}\fi{}}{s}$-dependent enhancement factor. Depending on $c$, $\mathrm{ln}(\ensuremath{\mu})$ varies approximately linearly with $1∕T$ or with $1∕{T}^{2}$. This finding may lead to a solution for the long-standing controversy between polaron-based and disorder-based hopping models.

Abstract: Following its discovery more than 30 years ago, the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect has become the guiding principle for cancer nanomedicine development. Over the years, the tumor-targeted drug delivery field has made significant progress, as evidenced by the approval of several nanomedicinal anticancer drugs. Recently, however, the existence and the extent of the EPR effect - particularly in patients - have become the focus of intense debate. This is partially due to the disbalance between the huge number of preclinical cancer nanomedicine papers and relatively small number of cancer nanomedicine drug products reaching the market. To move the field forward, we have to improve our understanding of the EPR effect, of its cancer type-specific pathophysiology, of nanomedicine interactions with the heterogeneous tumor microenvironment, of nanomedicine behavior in the body, and of translational aspects that specifically complicate nanomedicinal drug development. In this virtual special issue, 24 research articles and reviews discussing different aspects of the EPR effect and cancer nanomedicine are collected, together providing a comprehensive and complete overview of the current state-of-the-art and future directions in tumor-targeted drug delivery.

Abstract: Comparative studies on hydrogen-bonded versus covalently linked donor-acceptor-donor dye arrays obtained from oligo(p-phenylene vinylene)s (OPVs) as donor and bay-substituted perylene bisimides (PERYs) as acceptor dyes are presented. Both systems form well-ordered J-type aggregates in methylcyclohexane, but only hydrogen-bonded arrays afford hierarchically assembled chiral OPV-PERY dye superstructures consisting of left-handed helical pi-pi co-aggregates (CD spectroscopy) of the two dyes that further assemble into right-handed nanometer-scale supercoils in the solid state (AFM study). In the case of hydrogen-bonded arrays, the stability of the aggregates in solution increases with increasing conjugation length of the OPV unit. The well-defined co-aggregated dyes presented here exhibit photoinduced electron transfer on subpicosecond time scale, and thus, these supramolecular entities might serve as valuable nanoscopic functional units.

Abstract: Following last decade’s programmatic papers on Evolutionary Economic Geography, we report on recent empirical advances and how this empirical work can be positioned vis-a-vis other strands of research in economic geography. First, we review studies on the path dependent nature of clustering, and how the evolutionary perspective relates to that of New Economic Geography. Second, we discuss research on agglomeration externalities in Regional Science, and how Evolutionary Economic Geography contributed to this literature with the concepts of cognitive proximity and related variety. Third, we go into the role of institutions in Evolutionary Economic Geography, and we relate this to the way Institutional Economic Geography tends to view institutions. From this discussion, a number of new research challenges are derived.
