TL;DR: It was found that the biological effects of various sulfur and nitrogen mustards closely resemble those of X rays, and several of these compounds were tested for carcinogenicity, with the first direct evidence of carcinogenic activity in alkylating agents was obtained.
Abstract: A few years ago it became increasingly apparent that the biological effects of various sulfur and nitrogen mustards closely resemble those of X rays. Observations upon their local and systemic toxicity-in particular, their hematological effects in normal subjects and, later, in leukemic patientstheir mutagenic activity, their inhibitory action upon the growth of experimental tumors, and their cytotoxic effects upon proliferating cells, all pointed to this conclusion. Several of these compounds were therefore tested for carcinogenicity, with the result that the first direct evidence of carcinogenic activity in alkylating agents was obtained.

28 Nov 1975TL;DR: In this article, an oriented plastics container is heat set by holding an unheat set container against the heated walls of a split mould by means of gas under pressure, and thereafter cooling the container, e.g. by cooling the mould or by displacing said gas with a cooling liquid under pressure.
Abstract: An oriented plastics container, e.g. bottle, is heat set by holding an unheat set container against the heated walls of a split mould by means of gas under pressure, and thereafter cooling the container, e.g. by cooling the mould or by displacing said gas with a cooling liquid under pressure, and then removing the container from the mould. The liquid may be that to be packaged in the container.

14 Dec 1989TL;DR: The NU-87 catalyst is useful in a wide variety of hydrocarbon conversion reactions including isomerization, transalkylation, and alkylation as mentioned in this paper, but it is not suitable for catalytic applications.
Abstract: A catalyst comprising a novel zeolite NU-87, is useful in a wide variety of hydrocarbon conversion reactions including isomerisation, transalkylation and alkylation.

TL;DR: In this paper, an accurate direct titration method for the determination of anion and cation-active compounds was developed using new partition end points based on the solubility in organic solvents of complexes formed between anion-active agents and methylene blue, and between cation active agents and bromophenol blue respectively.
Abstract: An accurate direct titration method for the determination of anion and cation-active compounds has been developed using new partition end points based on the solubility in organic solvents of complexes formed between anion-active agents and methylene blue, and between cation-active agents and bromophenol blue respectively. The new method has been compared with known methods.

TL;DR: It is found that the modified partition chromatogram for penicillin using buffer as the stationary phase can also be adapted to the micro-scale by the same change in support.
Abstract: MARTIN and co-workers1 extended their technique of partition chromatography of the amino-acids to the micro-scale by using filter paper instead of silica gel as the support for the stationary phase (water). We have found that the modified partition chromatogram for penicillin using buffer as the stationary phase2 can also be adapted to the micro-scale by the same change in support. Colour reactions are not readily applicable to locate the positions of the invisible developed zones, so that a microbiological procedure has been used both to identify and to determine approximately the types and amounts of penicillins resolved on the buffered paper strip. The procedure is as follows.
