TL;DR: In the early 1970s, competition among radial tire makers became severe in the US as well as in Europe, instead, Japanese carmakers bought Japanese tires knowing they inferior to European ones as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Strong postwar popularity of the automobile supported the redevelopment of the tire industry, which increased its capital investment, expanded the product lines and continued to growth through the 1970s. The technological innovation of the radial tire allowed French tiremaker Michelin to improve the major qualities of its tires and to expand abroad. In the early 1970s, competition among radial tire makers became severe in the US as well as in Europe, instead, insulated in Japan, Japanese carmakers bought Japanese tires knowing they inferior to European ones. That support provided them with the resources and the time to improve and progress, both in terms of market and technology to internationally competitive levels.

TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-agent system is proposed to resolve semantic conflicts relatively to evolutive domain ontologies following databases evolution according to the dialogue between agents, taking care of scalability issues.
Abstract: The growth and variety of distributed information sources imply a need to exchange and/or to share information extracted from various and heterogeneous databases. The cooperation of heterogeneous information systems requires advanced architectures able to solve conflicts coming from data heterogeneity (structural and semantic heterogeneity). To resolve semantic conflicts relatively to evolutive domain ontologies following databases evolution according to the dialogue between agents, taking care of scalability issues, we propose a multi-agent system. These interaction protocols allowing ontologies evolution are currently implemented by using Java and the JADE (Java Agent DEvelopment framework) platform.
