Abstract: The ultimate goal of program verification is not the theory behind the tools or the tools themselves, but the application of the theory and tools in the software engineering process. Our society relies on the correctness of a vast and growing amount of software. Improving the software engineering process is an important, long-term goal with many steps. Two of those steps are the KeY tool and this KeY book. The material is presented on an advanced level suitable for graduate courses and, of course, active researchers with an interest in verification. The underlying verification paradigm is deductive verification in an expressive program logic. The logic used for reasoning about programs is not a minimalist version suitable for theoretical investigations, but an industrial-strength version. The first-order part is equipped with a type system for modelling of object hierarchies, with underspecification, and with various built-in theories. The program logic covers full Java Card (plus a bit more such as multi-dimensional arrays, characters, and long integers). A lot of emphasis is thereby put on specification, including two widely-used object-oriented specification languages (OCL and JML) and even an interface to natural language generation. The generation of proof obligations from specified code is discussed at length. The book is rounded off by two substantial case studies that are included and presented in detail.

Abstract: We introduce the notion of iceberg concept lattices and show their use in knowledge discovery in databases. Iceberg lattices are a conceptual clustering method, which is well suited for analyzing very large databases. They also serve as a condensed representation of frequent itemsets, as starting point for computing bases of association rules, and as a visualization method for association rules. Iceberg concept lattices are based on the theory of Formal Concept Analysis, a mathematical theory with applications in data analysis, information retrieval, and knowledge discovery. We present a new algorithm called TITANIC for computing (iceberg) concept lattices. It is based on data mining techniques with a level-wise approach. In fact, TITANIC can be used for a more general problem: Computing arbitrary closure systems when the closure operator comes along with a so-called weight function. The use of weight functions for computing closure systems has not been discussed in the literature up to now. Applications providing such a weight function include association rule mining, functional dependencies in databases, conceptual clustering, and ontology engineering. The algorithm is experimentally evaluated and compared with Ganter's Next-Closure algorithm. The evaluation shows an important gain in efficiency, especially for weakly correlated data.

Abstract: The four LEP collaborations, ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL, have searched for the neutral Higgs bosons which are predicted by the Minimal Supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). The data of the four collaborations are statistically combined and examined for their consistency with the background hypothesis and with a possible Higgs boson signal. The combined LEP data show no significant excess of events which would indicate the production of Higgs bosons. The search results are used to set upper bounds on the cross-sections of various Higgs-like event topologies. The results are interpreted within the MSSM in a number of “benchmark” models, including CP-conserving and CP-violating scenarios. These interpretations lead in all cases to large exclusions in the MSSM parameter space. Absolute limits are set on the parameter cosβ and, in some scenarios, on the masses of neutral Higgs bosons.

Abstract: The electrical conductivity, sigma, of donor-doped and undoped strontium titanate (SrTiO3) ceramics and, in some cases, single crystals, Sr1-xLaxTiO3 (0 ≤ to x ≤ 0.1), was investigated in the temperature range of 1000°-1400°C under oxygen partial pressures, PO2, of 10-20-1 bar. In conjunction with Hall data and thermopower data from related papers, a set of constants for a defect-chemical model was determined, precisely describing point-defect concentrations and transport properties of these materials. In contrast to former works, temperature-dependent transport parameters and their non-negligible influence on the determination of the constants was considered, as well as the equilibrium restoration phenomena of the cation sublattice, which can be studied only at such high temperatures. It was shown that defects in the cation sublattice completely govern the electrical behavior of donor-doped and undoped SrTiO3. In the latter case, frozen-in strontium vacancies act as intrinsic acceptors, determining the sigma(PO2) curves at lower temperatures. This intrinsic acceptor concentration also can be calculated with this model. The very good agreement between calculation and measurement is shown in many examples.

Abstract: We report the observation of two narrow structures in the mass spectra of the pi(+/-) Y(nS) (n = 1, 2, 3) and pi(+/-) h(b)(mP) (m = 1, 2) pairs that are produced in association with a single charged pion in Y(5S) decays The measured masses and widths of the two structures averaged over the five final states are M-1 = (10 6072 +/- 20) MeV/c(2), Gamma(1) =(184 +/- 24) MeV, and M-2 = (10 6522 +/- 15) MeV/c(2), Gamma(2) = (115 +/- 22) MeV The results are obtained with a 1214 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector in the vicinity of the Y(5S) resonance at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider
