TL;DR: A history of periodontal disease, cemented prostheses, presences of wear facets on the prosthetic crown and full mouth rehabilitations were identified as risk indicators for peri-implantitis.
Abstract: Objectives: The aim of this study was to identify systemic and local risk indicators associated with peri-implantitis. Material and methods: One hundred eighty-three patients treated with 916 osseo ...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present generic scaling laws relating spreading critical exponents and avalanche exponents (in the sense of self-organized criticality) in general systems with absorbing states.
Abstract: We present generic scaling laws relating spreading critical exponents and avalanche exponents (in the sense of self-organized criticality) in general systems with absorbing states. Using these scaling laws we present a collection of the state-of-the-art exponents for directed percolation, dynamical percolation, and other universality classes. This collection of results should help to elucidate the connections of self-organized criticality and systems with absorbing states. In particular, some nonuniversality in avalanche exponents is predicted for systems with many absorbing states.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated thermal convection for flows in which the production of turbulence energy is due solely to buoyancy, and the statistics of the flow are homogeneous in horizontal planes.
Abstract: Turbulence in thermal convection is investigated for flows in which the production of turbulence energy is due solely to buoyancy, and the statistics of the flow are homogeneous in horizontal planes. New experimental results for high Rayleigh number unsteady turbulent convection in a horizontal layer heated from below and insulated from above are presented and compared to turbulent Rayleigh convection, convection in the planetary boundary layer, and laboratory penetrative convection. Mean temperature fields are correlated in terms of wall layer scales and convection scales. Joint statistics of turbulent temperature and horizontal velocity and vertical velocity through fourth order are presented for the core region of the convection layer.

TL;DR: C-labeling experiments showed that patterns in central carbon metabolism and resource allocation exhibited by nitrogen-starved plants were largely reversed by bacterial inoculation, such that they resembled plants grown under nitrogen-sufficient conditions.
Abstract: Summary Nitrogen-fixing rhizobacteria can promote plant growth; however, it is controversial whether biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) from associative interaction contributes to growth promotion. The roots of Setaria viridis, a model C4 grass, were effectively colonized by bacterial inoculants resulting in a significant enhancement of growth. Nitrogen-13 tracer studies provided direct evidence for tracer uptake by the host plant and incorporation into protein. Indeed, plants showed robust growth under nitrogen-limiting conditions when inoculated with an ammonium-excreting strain of Azospirillum brasilense. 11C-labeling experiments showed that patterns in central carbon metabolism and resource allocation exhibited by nitrogen-starved plants were largely reversed by bacterial inoculation, such that they resembled plants grown under nitrogen-sufficient conditions. Adoption of S. viridis as a model should promote research into the mechanisms of associative nitrogen fixation with the ultimate goal of greater adoption of BNF for sustainable crop production.

TL;DR: The importance of implementing a Water Quality Index as a tool to manage shrimp farms and the surrounding natural environments is demonstrated and results indicate water quality parameters and times of the year are related to environmental stress.
