TLDR
A 30-jansky dispersed burst, less than 5 milliseconds in duration, located 3° from the Small Magellanic Cloud is found, which implies that it was a singular event such as a supernova or coalescence of relativistic objects.Abstract:
Pulsar surveys offer a rare opportunity to monitor the radio sky for impulsive burst-like events with millisecond durations. We analyzed archival survey data and found a 30-jansky dispersed burst, less than 5 milliseconds in duration, located 3 degrees from the Small Magellanic Cloud. The burst properties argue against a physical association with our Galaxy or the Small Magellanic Cloud. Current models for the free electron content in the universe imply that the burst is less than 1 gigaparsec distant. No further bursts were seen in 90 hours of additional observations, which implies that it was a singular event such as a supernova or coalescence of relativistic objects. Hundreds of similar events could occur every day and, if detected, could serve as cosmological probes.read more

Cosmological Fast Radio Bursts from Binary Neutron Star Mergers
TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss binary neutron star (NS-NS) mergers as a possible origin of fast radio bursts (FRBs) and argue that the observed short duration is difficult to explain by giant flares of soft gamma-ray repeaters, though their event rate and energy consumption are consistent with FRBs.

TL;DR: Only one repeating fast radio burst has been localized, to an irregular dwarf galaxy; now another is found to come from a star-forming region of a nearby spiral galaxy, suggesting that repeating FRBs may have a wide range of luminosities, and originate from diverse host galaxies and local environments.

Millisecond Magnetar Birth Connects FRB 121102 to Superluminous Supernovae and Long Duration Gamma-ray Bursts
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the properties of the host galaxy are consistent with those of long-duration gamma-ray bursts (LGRB) and hydrogen-poor superluminous supernovae (SLSNe-I).

Fast radio bursts
TL;DR: Fast radio bursts (FRBs) as mentioned in this paper are the most common source of radio bursts and have a longer life cycle than the individual pulses from a pulsar and hence are many orders of magnitude more luminous than individual pulsars.
