Air-Sea Gas Exchange Rates: Introduction and Synthesis

TLDR
In this article, the basic equations governing air-sea gas exchange are given, then a review of some models proposed to describe the gas transfer process is given, and experimental approaches through both laboratory (principally using wind/water tunnels) and field measurements are summarized.
Abstract
In this chapter we attempt to present a brief introduction to the subject of air-sea gas exchange First the basic equations governing such exchange are given, then a review of some models proposed to describe the gas transfer process Following this, experimental approaches through both laboratory (principally using wind/water tunnels) and field measurements are summarised Finally, we present what seems to us to be the best current synthesis of the wind tunnel and field results for the prediction of gas exchange rates across the sea surface

Parametric sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of dimethylsulfide oxidation in the clear-sky remote marine boundary layer

TL;DR: In this article, local and global sensitivity and uncertainty methods are applied to a box model of the DMS oxidation cycle in the remote marine boundary layer in order to determine the key physical and chemical parameters and sources of uncertainty.

Drivers of Surface Ocean Mercury Concentrations and Air–Sea Exchange in the West Atlantic Ocean

TL;DR: The results suggest that further mechanistic understanding of the role of DOC on Hg redox kinetics in different types of marine environments is needed to explain variability in Hg(0) concentrations and improve global estimates of air-sea exchange.

Dimethylsulfide in marine air at Cape Grim, 41°S

TL;DR: In this paper, atmospheric dimethylsulfide measurements made in marine air at Cape Grim, Tasmania, have been combined with a simple photochemical box model to provide estimates of monthly mean flux of dimethyl sulfide from the Southern Ocean upwind of Cape Grim.

Fluxes and fate of dissolved methane released at the seafloor at the landward limit of the gas hydrate stability zone offshore western Svalbard

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple box model of dissolved methane removal from bottom waters by horizontal and vertical mixing and microbially mediated oxidation indicates that ∼60% of methane released at the seafloor is oxidized at depth before it mixes with overlying surface waters.

Simulation of the aerosol optical depth over Europe for August 1997 and a comparison with observations

TL;DR: In this article, a chemical transport model has been extended with an aerosol model describing processes which determine the mass distribution of sulfate, nitrate, ammonium, and aerosol associated water.

Gas exchange rates between air and sea

TL;DR: In this article, the average film thickness for the world ocean based on the distribution of natural radiocarbon, bomb-produced radioccarbon, and radon are in good agreement, and Radon data from the BOMEX area and from station PAPA lend support to Kanwisher's suggestion that gas exchange rates should vary in proportion to the square of the wind velocity.

Vollständige Darstellung der turbulenten Geschwindigkeitsverteilung in glatten Leitungen

TL;DR: From experimental investigations of turbulent exchange of momentum a formula is derived for the velocity of turbulent flow in tubes and pipes in this paper, which gives a complete representation of the velocity distribution, i. e. it holds good close to the wall as well as in the core of the flow.
