TLDR

In this chapter we attempt to present a brief introduction to the subject of air-sea gas exchange First the basic equations governing such exchange are given, then a review of some models proposed to describe the gas transfer process Following this, experimental approaches through both laboratory (principally using wind/water tunnels) and field measurements are summarised Finally, we present what seems to us to be the best current synthesis of the wind tunnel and field results for the prediction of gas exchange rates across the sea surfaceread more

A diurnal carbon engine explains 13C-enriched carbonates without increasing the global production of oxygen.
Emily C. Geyman,Adam C. Maloof +1 more
TL;DR: This work uses modern observations and a simple model to show how ordinary diurnal carbon cycling in shallow waters is sufficient to produce anomalously positive δ13C on shelves today, and in the geological record, and provides a simple mechanism for the observed δ 13C-decoupling between global seawater DIC and shallow carbonate, without burying organic matter or generating O2.

Diffusivity of methyl bromide in water
TL;DR: De Bruyn et al. as discussed by the authors measured the diffusivity of methyl bromide in pure water over a temperature range 5-20°C and found that it varied from 9.85 X 10e6 cm2 s-’ at 5°C to 1.50 X lo-

Iron fertilization of the Austral ocean: the Hamburg model assessment
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of an enhanced biological productivity caused by an artificial iron fertilization in the southern ocean with a three-dimensional carbon cycle model, which is based on an ocean circulation obtained by an ocean general circulation model, was investigated.

Ocean primary production derived from satellite data: An evaluation with atmospheric oxygen measurements
TL;DR: In this article, a simple one-dimensional diagnostic model of ocean biology has been developed that depends on only two parameters: a time delay between organic production and oxidation (set to 2 weeks) and an export scale length (50 m).

Origin of dimethylsulfide, non-sea-salt sulfate, and methanesulfonic acid in eastern Antarctica
TL;DR: In this paper, a retrotransport model is derived from the LMD-ZT atmospheric general circulation model, optimized for polar climate and expanded to simulate atmospheric sulfur chemistry, and the meridional origin and the age of DMS, MSA, and biogenic nss sulfate are also estimated.

Gas exchange rates between air and sea
TL;DR: In this article, the average film thickness for the world ocean based on the distribution of natural radiocarbon, bomb-produced radioccarbon, and radon are in good agreement, and Radon data from the BOMEX area and from station PAPA lend support to Kanwisher's suggestion that gas exchange rates should vary in proportion to the square of the wind velocity.

Vollständige Darstellung der turbulenten Geschwindigkeitsverteilung in glatten Leitungen
TL;DR: From experimental investigations of turbulent exchange of momentum a formula is derived for the velocity of turbulent flow in tubes and pipes in this paper, which gives a complete representation of the velocity distribution, i. e. it holds good close to the wall as well as in the core of the flow.
