Air-Sea Gas Exchange Rates: Introduction and Synthesis

TLDR
In this article, the basic equations governing air-sea gas exchange are given, then a review of some models proposed to describe the gas transfer process is given, and experimental approaches through both laboratory (principally using wind/water tunnels) and field measurements are summarized.
Abstract
In this chapter we attempt to present a brief introduction to the subject of air-sea gas exchange First the basic equations governing such exchange are given, then a review of some models proposed to describe the gas transfer process Following this, experimental approaches through both laboratory (principally using wind/water tunnels) and field measurements are summarised Finally, we present what seems to us to be the best current synthesis of the wind tunnel and field results for the prediction of gas exchange rates across the sea surface

The carbon dioxide system in the Strait of Gibraltar

TL;DR: The CANIGO Project pH T and total alkalinity (A T ) and continuous underway fugacity of carbon dioxide ( f CO 2 ) measurements were carried out in the Strait of Gibraltar in September 97 and February 98.

Modeling atmospheric sulfur over the Northern Hemisphere during the Aerosol Characterization Experiment 2 experimental period

TL;DR: In this paper, a high-resolution Eulerian chemical transport and transformation model for sulfate, SO-sub 2, and related species driven by analyzed forecast meteorological data has been run for the Northern Hemisphere for June-July 1997 and extensively evaluated with observational data, mainly from air quality and precipitation chemistry networks.

Seasonal Variability of Carbon Chemistry at the SEATS Time-Series Site, Northern South China Sea Between 2002 and 2003

TL;DR: Analyses of total carbon dioxide (TCO2) and titration alkalinity (TA) in the mixed-layer were performed approximately bimonthly at the SEATS time series site (18°15'N, 115°35'E) from March 2002 to April 2003 as mentioned in this paper.

Fluxes and gas transfer rates of the biogenic trace gas DMS derived from atmospheric gradients

TL;DR: In this paper, a quadratic relationship between gas transfer velocity and wind speed was derived from the DMS flux measurements; this relationship was in close agreement with a parameterization derived from relaxed eddy accumulation measurements of DMS over the northeastern Pacific Ocean.

Metabolic rates of swimming Humboldt penguins

TL;DR: Using previously published data on at-sea activity of Humboldt penguins, it is found that foraging costs during chick rearing amount to 340 g anchovies d -1 and a general model is presented to convert Humbert penguin activity data at sea to food requirements.

Gas exchange rates between air and sea

TL;DR: In this article, the average film thickness for the world ocean based on the distribution of natural radiocarbon, bomb-produced radioccarbon, and radon are in good agreement, and Radon data from the BOMEX area and from station PAPA lend support to Kanwisher's suggestion that gas exchange rates should vary in proportion to the square of the wind velocity.

Vollständige Darstellung der turbulenten Geschwindigkeitsverteilung in glatten Leitungen

TL;DR: From experimental investigations of turbulent exchange of momentum a formula is derived for the velocity of turbulent flow in tubes and pipes in this paper, which gives a complete representation of the velocity distribution, i. e. it holds good close to the wall as well as in the core of the flow.
