Air-Sea Gas Exchange Rates: Introduction and Synthesis

TLDR
In this article, the basic equations governing air-sea gas exchange are given, then a review of some models proposed to describe the gas transfer process is given, and experimental approaches through both laboratory (principally using wind/water tunnels) and field measurements are summarized.
Abstract
In this chapter we attempt to present a brief introduction to the subject of air-sea gas exchange First the basic equations governing such exchange are given, then a review of some models proposed to describe the gas transfer process Following this, experimental approaches through both laboratory (principally using wind/water tunnels) and field measurements are summarised Finally, we present what seems to us to be the best current synthesis of the wind tunnel and field results for the prediction of gas exchange rates across the sea surface

Distribution of surface seawater partial C0 2 pressure in the English Channel and in the Southern Bight of the North Sea

TL;DR: In this article, the relationship between seawater pCO 2 and chlorophyll distribution is discussed and compared with data recently obtained in the North Atlantic by A. J. Watson, C. Robinson, J. E. Williams and J. R. Fasham.

Photochemical production and air-sea exchange of carbonyl sulfide in the eastern Mediterranean Sea

TL;DR: In this paper, the EGAMES (Evasion of GAses from the MEditerranean Sea) expedition in the Aegean and eastern Ionian Sea in July 1993, measured atmospheric and sea surface concentrations of carbonyl sulfide (COS).

Spatial and seasonal variability of the air-sea equilibration timescale of carbon dioxide

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors use a suite of observational data sets to generate climatological and seasonal composite maps of the air-sea equilibration timescale, which can serve as simple tools for understanding the large-scale persistence of airsea disequilibrium of CO2 in both observations and models.

Strong CO2 emissions from the Arabian Sea during south‐west monsoon

TL;DR: The partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2) was measured during the 1995 South-West Monsoon in the Arabian Sea as discussed by the authors, which was characterized throughout by a moderate supersaturation of 12-30 µatm.

Biochemical Properties of the Oceanic Carbon Cycle

TL;DR: The Earth's climate is regulated by the radiative balance between the solar energy received by the earth-atmosphere system and the thermal radiation sent back to space, while most of the latter originates from the atmosphere as discussed by the authors.

Gas exchange rates between air and sea

TL;DR: In this article, the average film thickness for the world ocean based on the distribution of natural radiocarbon, bomb-produced radioccarbon, and radon are in good agreement, and Radon data from the BOMEX area and from station PAPA lend support to Kanwisher's suggestion that gas exchange rates should vary in proportion to the square of the wind velocity.

Vollständige Darstellung der turbulenten Geschwindigkeitsverteilung in glatten Leitungen

TL;DR: From experimental investigations of turbulent exchange of momentum a formula is derived for the velocity of turbulent flow in tubes and pipes in this paper, which gives a complete representation of the velocity distribution, i. e. it holds good close to the wall as well as in the core of the flow.
